Introducing Sawyer

Baby Sawyer has arrived!

Sawyer's birth day story goes a little like this...

On Saturday morning, around 7:00, I woke up to a very strong, painful contraction.  I only had one and they went away...but, unlike many of my other contactions, this one was really painful.  I rolled over and made the comment to Chad..."This little guy is probably so stubborn that he will probably decide to come today, one day away from our September 1st deadline."

I had a few things planned for Saturday - one last pre-baby pedicure and lunch with a few of my friends, kid free.  I had a few quick errands to run - baby Sawyer was still looking for jump ropes to give his big brothers as part of their present when he arrived.

Chad took the boys to breakfast, I slept in a little late and then got up, had breakfast, showered and headed out for my pedicure.  I had one contraction while getting ready, but this was nothing new as I had been having contractions for weeks.

I headed off to my pedicure.  Again, I had one contraction during my pedicure.  After my pedicure, I did send a text to my friend Gene, who is also a mid wife at my OB practice, asking who was on call for the weekend.

From my pedicure, I headed off to lunch.  Due to the holiday weekend, lots of friends were out of town or had plans with their family but I enjoyed the small group that was able to go.  Brooke, Kelly, and Laura joined me for lunch at Vickery's, they brought a few cute baby presents and we discussed all sorts of things!  We did talk about my contractions and the doctor on call for the weekend but I never thought I would actually go into labor.  I did notice at lunch that I was having to use the bathroom much more frequently than normal...and, I had one contraction at lunch.

We left lunch at 2:30.

I headed to Target and as soon as I got there, I had to use the bathroom and I did have a contraction.  I walked around in the store for a while, grabbed a few things, realized they did not have the jump ropes I was looking for and decided to head to W@lMart.  Meanwhile, Chad took the boys to a late lunch at JJ's.  I left Target at 3:00.

I got to W@lmart around 3:30.  I, again, immediately had to go use the bathroom and had another contraction.  In Walmart, my contractions started getting more and more painful.  I started keeping track...but kept shopping.

My contractions looked a little like this....
2:30, 3:09, 3:28, 3:47, 4:06, 4:16....

At 3:43, I sent a text to my sister-in-law telling her that I had found 2 floats for the lake on sale at Target.  She asked, what are you doing shopping, I thought you were supposed to be on the couch...and I responded yes.  I was beginning to think the couch was exactly where I needed to be!

About 5 minutes later, I sent a text to Chad saying "I am checking out with what I have in buggy, you will have to back out to get milk....I am dying and need to come home."

I made it home a little after 4:00.

Contractions continued....

....4:16, 4:25, 4:34, 4:41, 4:50, 5:05, 5:09....

Called on-call doctor and he called back at 5:15.  Dr. O told me to rest on the couch and drink water, he would call back in an hour.

...525, 536, 544, 551, 558, 603.....into the car.....

Over the next hour, my contractions got REALLY strong....I was in so much pain, flopping around all over the couch, back and forth to the bath room, etc...I knew these probably weren't slowing down!  In fact, I wasn't really able to talk through them and I was wishing I had taken a refresher labor class for breathing exercises.  Hopefully Payton and Owen aren't scarred for life...I did say "I'm dying" once.....and Payton went running back upstairs to tell Chad to hurry because I was dying.  I did say "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god," a few times...and luckily the boys didn't scold me....we do not say "oh my god" in our house.

Chad did a great job of packing the boys an overnight bag and explaining to them that the baby was probably coming today, instead of Tuesday.  They couldn't really understand why he would come today...he was supposed to come on Tuesday.  For the most part, the boys did great getting ready and staying away from Mommy while she was "dying" on the couch.  Our wonderful friends Andrew and Laura got a quick phone call asking them to keep Payton and Owen while we went to the hospital.  The boys were so excited that they were going to sleep at Charlie's house.

Chad also did a great job packing up the few things I needed.  I had them laid out, but not packed.  He even remembered my tooth brush!

At 6:30, Dr. O called back...Chad had to answer because I was in the middle of another wonderful contraction - I had 9 contractions in the past hour - the conversation was short.  He basically said it sounded like we were having a baby today and to head on over to the hospital, he would see us there.

We loaded up the car....I had a contraction.  We drove to Andrew and Laura's house....I had another contraction.  Payton told Daddy again to hurry up.  Owen asked if I was going to be sick.  Even while dying in pain, it was funny.  We dropped them off at Andrew and Laura's, they gave me one last kiss and we told them they would be meeting their new baby brother soon!

We arrived at the hospital at 7:05...the triage process was interesting....I was having contractions as close as 1-2 minutes apart.  While having contractions, they were throwing papers in my face and making me sign, discussing my allergies and family history, taking my blood pressure with a cuff that left bruised mark on my arm.  I was having to get up to use the bathroom, while having contractions, with people in the room.

Smiling in between contractions
About to be a daddy again...gowned up and ready to go!
Thank goodness it did move quick and thank goodness Chad was by my side...I was getting anxious and upset with people in the room.  One of the nurses did a great job, the other did a terrible job...she could have cared less if I was having a contraction.  I guess they work in L&D so they are used to women in labor, but, this was my first time in labor and I was a bit scared that I was contracting so rapidly on a post c-section....times 2....uterus.  My doctor didn't want me to have more than 6 contractions in an hour.....so, 1 every minute wasn't settling too easy on my mind.

By 9:00, they were trying to get me to the OR for my c-section.  They wanted me to walk...my contractions were coming every 90 seconds.  Thank goodness Chad suggested they use a chair...I'm not sure I would have made it!  As they took me to the OR, Chad had to leave and go to another room.  I was then really anxious....and really dying in pain....they asked me to climb up onto the OR table, which seemed like a difficult task....somehow I made it.  My water broke in the mean time.  This little guy was coming and he didn't care what day it was or if Dr. O made it or not!

My previous c-sections just didn't go well...which added to my anxiety.  The anesthesiologist was great and I so appreciated that!  Dr. O made it in time and Chad finally made it into the room with me.
Oh, just chillin'...having a major surgery and about to meet my baby!
My previous c-sections had provided scar tissue and it made the surgery a little longer than my previous c-sections...but, at exactly 9:30, Sawyer William Webb entered the world.

HELLO WORLD!!
Sawyer weighed in at 9 lbs 1 oz, 21 inches long.  Big, big boy!
Mommy meets baby Sawyer for the first time.  Despite this being my 3rd baby, this was my most precious first moment...I was way to medicated when I had Payton for his delivery to be very memorable and with Owen, he was way to purple to spend much time getting a kiss from Mommy.  It was so nice to see, touch and kiss Sawyer!

While they finished up in the OR, Daddy went to the nursery with Sawyer.  Meme, Pawpaw and Grandma and Grandpa were just a few minutes behind Sawyer's arrival.
Check out those feet....BIG ONES!
A few of our first pictures with Sawyer.  Once again, amazed at the tremendous amount of love I immediately felt with this baby boy.  Love, love, love!!

Daddy gets his hands on Sawyer for the first time!

On Saturday, the boys were excited to come their baby brother.  They were also immediately in love (despite the fact that Owen kept getting confused and calling him baby Jackson!)!

My three sons!  Love, love, love!
Our perfect family of FIVE!
Sweet baby Sawyer getting adjusted to life in this big, new world!

He already sucks his fingers!

Baby Sawyer,

You could have never prepared me for the amount of love I already have in my heart for you.  I am certain that God knew what he was doing when he gave me you...I was destined to be the Mommy of three boys...and, you, sweet boy were destined to be my third.  You are perfect and I am loving every single second with you!

Love,
Mommy
