Highlights

Life has been crazy but that seems to be normal for a couple with three kids.

This will be just the high points of the past month or so....I have no time to write, so hopefully, one day when I can find the time again, I can elaborate on each of these things.

I started my new job a little over a month ago.  I don't love it but I don't hate it.  The hospital is going through tons of changes thanks to the current state of healthcare in America.  Working in healthcare is interesting.  It is hard work and requires highly educated people to get things done on a day to day basis.  When the government cuts funding, hospitals have no money.  Hospitals cut staff and cut staff and cut staff.  There are more patients but less people to get the job done.  Burnout is high, respect from patients is low.  Every single person I work with is negative and stressed out to the max.  The job I accepted looks nothing like the job I walked into a few weeks later.  I enjoy being a nurse but I do not enjoy all of the extra that suddenly comes with that.  I enjoy being a nurse but the current state of healthcare takes nearly all of the enjoyment out of it.

I was told I would have two afternoons off each week.  Empty promises. Instead, I rarely leave before 5:30.  It takes about an hour to get home.  It makes for some long, long days.  I am exhausted.  Working with three kids takes "working mother" to a whole new level.

The boys are all doing great.  Payton is moving on to first grade.  Owen finished up his first year at the preschool here.  We were really happy with his teacher and the end of his 3k year.  He ended the year with a picnic and we were all able to go.

Sawyer made his first trip to the hospital this past week - he had a minor surgery last week and everything went well.  Last night, he started running a fever and a phone call to the doctor lead us to the Pediatric ER.  Luckily the people working in the ER seemed to have a better attitude than most of the people I have been working with.  The ER experience was quick and easy...and funny, thanks to the medical student who asked our 9 month old to say "ahhhhh" so she could look in his throat.  I am glad she is still a student and hope she is not going into pediatrics. They determined his fever was not related to the surgery. We followed up with the pediatrician today who drew labs and got a urine sample (actually Chad and Grandma got the urine sample, which I'm sure was an interesting experience!).  He is taking medication to control his fever.  The pediatrician thinks his fever is related to a virus and its just a coincidence that the surgery was last week.  Another blessing to have a healthy baby!

The boys have been going to their first bible school this week.  Owen still refuses to go into a different room at any church than Payton so he went into Payton's 5-6 year old class.  They both did great  and had a great time this past week.

Payton finished up t-ball.  It was so much fun to watch him play and to play with a few of the players on his team.  I am ready to have him settled in his permanent school but sad that these boys won't get to continue playing together.  I think the boys are going to play baseball in the fall as well. Payton does not want to play soccer.

We are preparing for Owen's 4th birthday party.  He wants a golf party so I'm going to do my best to make his golf party the best golf party ever! I have a lot of ideas in my head...just hope I can find the time to pull it all together.

Probably most exciting of all is that Chad and his Dad have officially started their business. More details to come but let's just say I am so happy that lots of talking and thinking and studying and preparing is all finally starting to come together.  Hopefully we will see the fruits of their labor soon!

As for our house, we have been owners for about a month.  A little over four months left until we will be able to move in.  We have lots of things that we want to do to the house before we move in and we are hoping to get some of that lined up in the near future.  Furniture, painting, floors....now, if I can find the time to do that...

I am more than ready to be officially settled. This past week has been a little rough - one of our good friends in Mt P had a health scare and I realized, again, how hard it is to NOT be there for someone when they need you.  It was painful to be so far away as they were going through a pretty major health scare.  This made me a little emotional about how "unsettled" we are.  No church, no friends, no normal routine yet....it all gets to be a bit much when it's all piled together.  I know, a year from now things will surely feel more settled and surely we will have a church and a friend or two.  I'm exaggerating a little about the friends, we have made a few new friends, but it will take a lot for any one to compare to our group of friends in Mt. P.

I think that's all...

We are celebrating Malachi's 1st birthday this weekend, my cousin Aubrey is graduating from high school and we are having dinner with old friends on Saturday.

My goal for the week is to squeeze in a pedicure.....that might sound like I'm a spoiled brat but I have not had a pedicure in over a year, have not allowed myself to spend money on myself while I have been out of work, and all I want is to sit down and get a foot massage.  I hope I can make it happen soon!

Off to bed, early for once.
