no, not forgotten...just no time!

Dearest Blog -

I have not forgotten you....but, I have no time for you.  I'm attempting to be so many different things at this time...and you, somehow, have slipped down on my list.  I'm trying to be a good, breastfeeding mommy (so, any free time I do have is spent sitting down either feeding or pumping....its really not fun the second time around); I'm trying to get at least 5 hours of sleep each night, I'm trying to get up and get to work at a reasonable time...and then I end up working late; I'm trying to be a good nurse....but, my patients' are trying my patience (last week I was brought to tears twice...this is only about the 5th time this has happened to me as a nurse...aside from tears of absolute heartbreak and sadness when I worked as a heme/onc nurse); I am trying to be a good wife; I am trying to keep my house clean (by this, I mean, keep a path for walking and eating at best) and keep up with the laundry and dishes; I am trying to be involved at church and teach Sunday school (where my sweet 3rd grade pupils are also testing my patience); I'm trying to get ready for the holidays and I'm trying to think of the perfect birthday gift for my nearly 60 year old father.  So, you may be able to see why you have fallen to the bottom of my list.

We've had a busy month.

Owen is rolling over and growing a bit.

The 1st weekend in November our family traveled down for Owen's Christening. Owen wore my Christening gown...pictures will follow...soon.

This went great until Payton got sick immediately following the church service.

The following weekend we traveled to Chapel Hill.  We saw the Heels play basketball on Friday night (Owen's 1st trip to the Dean Dome).  We were happy to see lots of friends...especially Jenny HE with her growing baby belly :).  We went to the football game on Saturday - the boys stayed with a babysitter and we tried to enjoy a little adult time.  The Heels lost...but we still had a blast with our Hokie friends.

Meanwhile, Owen has had a lingering cough.  He has been extra fussy!  On Friday, November 19th he was diagnosed with his 1st ear infection - in his right ear.  Friday and Saturday nights were ROUGH!  Lots of crying....very little sleep!

We were able to make it to church in time to teach Sunday school to a group of very "naughty" 3rd graders...who were much more interested in a raccoon outside the window than in my lesson on Thanksgiving....except for one very sweet girl who said she was Thankful for Mr. Chad and myself for taking the time to teach her on Sunday mornings...she got brownie points!!

Saturday and Sunday we worked on Christmas decorations....yes, this to me, is against my beliefs.  Christmas FOLLOWS Thanksgiving and I would have never dreamed I would be sitting around with my Christmas tree (lights currently on) in mid-November....but, I have NO spare time...had to use it when I could get it...hopefully, I'll get a little more...right now I only have about 6 ornaments on the tree....but the lights are pretty :).

We have started 3 Christmas traditions here this week - I'm very excited to start teaching Payton about Christmas.

1) The Elf on the Shelf - we now have our very own Elf - Clyde (Payton named him!!).  Clyde arrived on our doorstep on Sunday night....we believe Santa left him here for Payton and Owen.  Clyde has already made a big impression with Payton.  Payton was happy to find that he had returned from his trip to the North Pole this morning....he wanted to know if Clyde rang the doorbell to get back in!!

2) The Nativity and the Christmas Story - Chandra and Allen gave Payton this interactive Christmas nativity and story set last year.  We started early because I want to be able to do this again the 7 days leading up to Christmas as well.  On our 1st three nights we have learned about Gabriel, Mary and Joseph.  Payton has been very excited every night to get out the box and play his "game."  He gets to pick a new person out of a box each night....tomorrow night we will learn about Baby Jesus.

**In attempting to get my child excited about Santa and teach him the true story of Christmas, I am realizing how difficult this is...for 15 minutes we talk about Clyde flying to the North Pole and for the next 15 minutes I'm trying to explain to a 2 1/2 year old that Mary and Joseph are going to have a baby together, a baby that God put in Mary's belly...of course, he says, Why?  Good thing I started early this year!!

3) Our 3rd tradition is not new, but its the 1st time Payton can understand.  We had adopted a family to buy Christmas presents for.  I have already bought a few items for the 8 year old little girl - she asked for Matchbox cars and a basketball.  Payton helped me pick them out.  We tried to explain to him that she does not have any balls....and remind him that he has 10.  He seemed to understand on a basic level.  Each day, he has been excited about the "girl's presents" and asks me every day if we get to take "the girl her presents yet!"

Hopefully somewhere along the way we are teaching him the true meaning of Christmas!

We'll be traveling to NC to celebrate Thanksgiving with both of our families this week.  Gotta take a few minutes out of teaching about Christmas to teach Payton the true meaning of Thanksgiving....to be Thankful for his wonderful Mommy :).....and so many other things!  As always, this year, we have SO much to be thankful for in the Webb family!  I look forward to giving thanks and celebrating with our families!
