Moving on....last day in New York, train ride to Boston!
On Sunday morning we slept in (a little) and got our bags packed for our big move! Our train was departing from Penn Station at 3:00.
We headed out for an early lunch and decided to try out the Hard Rock Cafe, New York. The kids were a disaster - this was one of my "what were we thinking, REALLY, WHAT were we thinking?!?!" moments. Luckily, the moment passed and the day got a little better!
We finished lunch and shortly after headed from the Westin to Penn Station via taxi. Chad and I got dropped off at the top of set of stairs and an escalator....no elevator. I wish I had a picture of what we looked like at that moment. Everyone else got dropped off at a second entrance so they wouldn't be coming along to help. See if you can picture this: 2 adults, 2 children, one double stroller, two car seats in large car seat travel bags, two adult bookbags, one child's bookbag, 1 diaper bag, 2 large rolling suitcases, 1 small child's size suitcase....I think that about sums it up! After the 3rd homeless person approached us to offer their assistance, for money, we decided we could do this. Chad took one load to the bottom of the steps and ran back up to get another (yes, left our belongings unattended in a busy Penn station!). Payton attempted to help. I carried Owen and the double stroller, among other things down the stairs...finally (after nearly 100 people had walked by without offering the 1st glance) 2 young guys offered to help me and I said yes. We made it down the steps, found the rest of our group, and started to try to deal with our confusion.
Taking a train out of Penn Station is no easy task! Luckily, we found someone to help our large group. However, while trying to board the train I nearly broke my legs on the escalator (while holding the double stroller which got caught at the bottom) - really, I screamed at the top of my lungs and felt very helpless....but, I survived without falling. After recovering, I attempted to pull the diaper bag off the stroller - if flew off of my arm and came to a rest against the side of the train and the track - a few more inches and it would have fallen to the track below. Thank goodness it was open - I would have lost everything...and more importantly, thank goodness it was just the bag and not my baby!
We made it onto the train, luggage and kids in tow, and took a few deep breaths! We made it! The ride was about 4 hours. We had a few rough moments with Owen crying but for the most part the ride looked like this:

Once we were settled, the train ride was actually really enjoyable. We passed through the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island. The scenery was actually really pretty - small towns, water, boats, and a lighthouse along the way.
We arrived in Boston around 7 in the evening - we were overjoyed to find cool weather when we stepped off the train! We jumped in cabs to get to our hotels - unfortunately, we were in different hotels in Boston, so we parted ways for the night. We were thrilled when we arrive at the Custom House. It was a great location, our room was perfect and our view of the city was amazing! I had no idea it would be so great! The week in Boston was going to be great!
We settled in for the night - did a little laundry and found this view from the observatory deck in our hotel:
We did have trouble finding food and ended up having a sandwich delivered around 10 pm.....this was our only bad meal so I can't really complain...but, it did make for a long day! We all slept great and were excited to start our week in Boston.
First thing Monday morning we would be renting a car and driving further north to Portland, Maine.
