Webb Family Vacation, Day 9

Friday July 29th

Our last full day in Boston - bagpipes and pastries!

I think we slept in a little on Friday, but I can't seem to remember so it must not have been that late!  We hit a few places we had been before and wanted to explore a little more.

This is the inside of the Old South Meeting House - where the Boston Tea Party was started.

We also toured the inside of the Old State House - which had LOTS of interesting historical artifacts but, the pictures don't do them justice!   I was interested in this clock - this clock is circa 1750.  This is mostly interesting to me because my dad has an old grandfather clock that I love.  We don't have any definite answers on how old the clock actually is.  This clock was very detailed to have been built in the 1750's!

The Old State House had interesting areas for the kids to help teach them a little more about what they were seeing.  Payton and Carson in the face of the clock!

The oldest, continuously operated restaurant in the US - I'm not sure how they can be certain of this, but for the sake of "history" I'll go with it!  Next door to the Union Oyster House is the oldest Tavern in the US.  Go figure!

We followed the Freedom Train to Paul Revere's house.  Another site full of amazing antique furniture.  No photography was allowed in the home.   Paul Revere left here the night of his famous "midnight ride."

Gotcha!  Proof that Allen was with us - he is usually behind the lens too!   We were photo and history buffs together on this trip!
Unfortunately, all of the history lessons had to come to an end.  From the Paul Revere house, we followed to Freedom trail into Little Italy.  I'm never seen so many restaurants in one small area!  We had a little trouble finding a spot for lunch - our original choice had a line of about 100 people!  We ended up at a small Italian restaurant.

After eating lunch, we made our way to another highly recommended spot - Mike's Pastry.  The land of  cannoli and other delicious desserts!   This is just a pastry shop with nearly anything you could have wanted.  At 3 o'clock in the afternoon it was PACKED!  One of the most crowded restaurants I have ever seen.  Must be good!  We each picked out a few things to try and left with our boxes in hand.  We were saving the goodies for later!
Happy kids with Mike's Pastry boxes
We headed back to the hotel, walked through the Quincy Marketplace, saw a few street performers and went in to relax before dinner.  From our room, we could hear bagpipes - so we went out to explore and found this:

The Boston Police Pipes and Drums
I LOVE bagpipes - it was a treat to hear them playing on the street!

We had dinner at Legal Seafoods for the last night.  Another great meal and a very kid friendly place (other than the initial issues with the stroller!)

After dinner we headed back to indulge in our Mike's Pastry goodness.  I stepped out of my comfort zone and had a canolli - two thumbs up!
Payton agrees!  Mike's Pastry is GREAT!

The last day of vacation is always bittersweet - this is especially true when traveling with family!  Friday night we had to say goodbye - we would not meet up again until the airport on Saturday.
