Owen at 15 (ok 16!) months

Owen -

These pictures were made at exactly 15 months....but if I'm honest with myself I have to admit that you will be 16 months tomorrow!  Where has our time gone?  My sweet little baby boy is now a walking, talking toddler....ahhh....toddler!  At church, I still take you into the baby room - even though you're walking and you should move up to the "walkers" room, I just can't do it - and the sweet ladies in the nursery aren't ready to let go of you either.  Eventually, they will have to send you across the hall....I just hope I'm ready when they force me to take you to the big kids room.

What are you doing these days....EVERYTHING!

You are a climber.  You climb on everything and once you get to the top of the object, you think its fun to stand - I've found you in some very unsafe spots recently.  The only good thing about you being a climber is that you can take the steps in record speed (only up, not down!).  So, this helps me because I can get you and a full handful of stuff up the steps now...major time saver!

You are a great sleeper!  You get tired around 8:00 and are asleep by 8:30.  Last week you were in bed before 8:00 a few nights.  As soon as you get into your crib, you are OUT!  You like to sleep with your music (even if your Daddy dosen't think you need it), 2 "rubby blankets" - one soft giraffe and one satin giraffe, and one soft baby blanket...not as a blanket, but as another thing to snuggle with.  You always were a snuggly baby so I'm not surprised that you like all of these things.

You have a FULL mouth of teeth.  I've lost count but, most of them are there.  Over the past few weeks you cut a couple bigger teeth and you were a little fussy but overall a real champ.

The pacifier....you don't use it at daycare but Mommy gives in at home....clearly, this is my fault alone.  You just really like it and I just really hate to hear you fuss.  You are fussy from about 6:30 until dinner and I'm just getting home from work.  So, my bad habit is giving it to you so that I can get dinner ready, check the mail, etc.  You also sleep with it - but you leave it in your crib in the mornings.

You still need a haircut but I still don't want to take you (I'm seeing a pattern here that you are growing up but I'm still keeping you a baby....I admit this is true...but I don't think its a problem...yet!).  Your hair is SO adorable - its long and curly in the back, thin and wispy in the front.  You definitely need the front trimmed but I don't want to do it myself and I don't want to pay for a haircut just to trim your bangs!  The back probably could use a cut too but I know if I cut your curls off they will be gone...and, I'm not done with those curls yet.  Gosh, they are cute!  You don't seem to mind anyway and so far, your friends haven't made fun of you....if they do, we'll get it cut!  I don't know when I'll be ready for that...soon...just not yet.

You are a great walker now.   You still stumble and fall as you should but for the most part, you keep your balance and your speed!  You're quick.  You've also learned to bounce.

Sports - you are just like your brother.  You love all things related to sports.  I think you like football best and you LOVE to wear one of the Tarheel football helmets around.  Its way to big for you but you manage just fine.  You have also learned to score the basketball into the goal - there is one in the bathtub that you really like.  You score and you clap and say "Yay!!"  Another little athlete in my future!

You have moments of temper tantrums - I would say you are strong willed - you thrust your body back and forth when you don't get your way and I'm often worried you are going to hurt your self....but, when you aren't having a "moment" you are laid back and easy going.  I'm hoping the laid back side of you will win out in the end....but I'm doubtful.  If you continue in the other direction, two will NOT be fun!

You are a wiggle worm - you hate to get your diaper changed and you never sit still!

You don't mind getting dirty.

You like to play with cars.

You are scared of things like the vacuum cleaner, the hair dryer and other similar sounding items.

Food - you LOVE to eat - but there are some things you suddenly don't like - spaghetti noodles (but you love mac-n-cheese); red grapes (but you're okay with green grapes); deli meats or cheese; chicken nuggets at home (but, you're fine with chicken at chicfil@ and other restaurants).

You are talking up a storm - you are able to repeat most 1 syllable words.  Your most common words are:

Ba-yee (Bailey)
Yuck (Truck)
Fiiiish (fish - for either a fish of a gold fish snack)
Bump (when we go over a bump in the car/stroller)
Bye-Bye
Nigh-Nigh (Night Night at bedtime)
Mom-mee
Da-dee
Meme
Pawpaw
Grandma
Grandpa (neither grandma or grandpa are perfectly clear, but close)
Ball (of course!)
Foo-ball (football)
Bat-ball (baseball)
Bu Sk-y (Blue Sky...daddy taught you to say this)
Ou Sigh (outside)
Tree
Mooo (what a cow says)
Meow (what a cat says)
Arrrrr (what a lion or pirate says)
Mooor (more)
Mill (milk)
Cook-ee (cookie)
Crack-eeerrr (cracker)
Up
Bigh (bite)
Yay!!!
You say some version of pumpkin

You know where your nose, eyes, ears, and toes are.  When we say "Oh no!"  you looked shocked and put your hand on your head.

You are enjoying daycare and like Payton, I truly believe you thrive in the environment.  There are only 6 kids in your class right now so you get lots of special attention which makes Mommy happy!

Of course, I can't put into words all that you can do and all that I would like to capture about you at this stage.  You are sweet and precious.  You are similar yet very different from your big brother all at the same time. Your smile and big eyes melt my heart.  I often look at you and all I can think is how adorable you are.  You love your Mommy and your Daddy and your eyes light up whenever you see either of us.   Big brother Payton...you are wild with excitement when he walks into the room and you love playing side by side with him - most interesting, we don't think you have a "name" for him yet....if there is something you "call" him we haven't picked up on it!  We love you so very much.  Life with two boys is really busy but we've got our routine down to a science (until one of us travels!!) and it works out pretty great.  No matter how busy it is now - or how busy we will be in a few years - I know that I was meant to have two boys and I know that you were always meant to be the second child in our family.  You are a perfect fit - I can't remember our family before you were part of it and I can't imagine how any other child would fit in better than you!  Yes, I know that my sweet curly headed boy was meant for me....even over a dainty little princess.  I'm in love with my two boys and I love finally having a Momma's boy!  I love you baby Owen.  The next few months will be even more fun and I can't wait to start celebrating all of the upcoming holidays with you!  It will be so much fun!

Hugs and Kisses baby "O!"

Love,
Mommy
