Good for the SOUL

Four days into Lent and I have discovered that a list of priorities is good for me....good for my soul!  Yesterday and today were spent finishing up on an annual project that I have to do for work.  Yes, it probably could have been finished more than 4 hours prior to the deadline but it wasn't.  It is finished now...and for the next few weeks at work I can breathe a little easier with that behind me!  Of course, there is already another project just waiting to take its place.  In my world at the hospital we are constantly working on "QI" projects - quality improvement.  My passion just happens to be helping mold my adolescent patients into more successful, healthy, and adherent adults - and I think education is the key to this.  This is a big task but its my world and it is what I love.  Yes, I love dealing with chronically ill adolescents who are very difficult to deal with most of the time!  This week, I'll get to dig in a little deeper with this project that is already in the works.

Wow....completely off topic!

What I had planned to say was that a day like today was good for my soul - I had 4 things I had to accomplish - 1) finish my work 2) blog 3) throw out a bag and 4) read my bible.  I have accomplished all 4 again...Bible will be done before bed.  We had a LAZY day and it was great.  Chad did have to keep the kids occupied for about 4 hours alone but otherwise we enjoyed our lazy day together - despite my work.  The kids watched a movie this morning and Chad and I are about to settle in to watch The Help.  I am learning that every one needs a lazy day - with absolutely no plans - to catch up, relax and breathe a little!  We are constantly on the go and even when we aren't Chad and I are constantly the "yes" people.  Yes, we'll serve on this committee at church.  Yes, we'll join this group.  Yes, we would love to have dinner with you guys (even though we already planned to eat at home).  Yes, we'll meet you there (even though we have laundry to do)....and, the list goes on.  So, today, with NO reason to leave the house I was able to relax a little and take it all in - it was indeed good for my soul!

I avoided fried foods again today - I was tempted at lunch and passed them by with no problems.  I threw out a bag of stinky diapers, emptied a few other trash cans, filled another small bag with "clutter" and finally cleaned out a luggage bag (still full of the kids clothes from our travels) and put the clothes away and the bag away.  I am getting used to the idea of de-cluttering for 5 - 10 minutes each day.  The problem is that 5 minutes is NOT enough.  Once I start, I need hours!

Tomorrow we will begin our lenten sermon series at church.  I'm excited!

I hope it continues to nourish my SOUL!

What did you think of 'The Help"?

Dad - The movie wasn't as good as the book...but, it was good. Thought provoking at least. I would imagine that you would sleep through either the book or the movie :) I'll be happy to give you a summary but I think you may have already lived through it in your own way. Love you!
