...has been so very busy!
I have a few minutes to blog so I'm just going to see how far I can get!
It is hard to believe it is already August! My sweet baby Owen is almost 7 weeks old. It is bittersweet to turn the calender because I know I have to return to work in September. I know deep down that going back to work is best for me - I do love my job and I know that Payton (and eventually Owen) benefits more by being in a controlled "school" environment than home with Mommy full-time. Even though I made this decision to return to work - even after getting to OK from Chad to stay home - my anxiety about returning to work grows higher and higher every single day. I had lots of trouble going back to work after having Payton (I actually quit my job at the last minute, ended up staying home for about 4 1/2 months, and luckily they asked me to come back part-time). I hope that I can keep it together this time! I do see a time in my future where I may hang up my stethoscope and stay home for a year or two...but I'm not there yet!
So, aside from sitting at home counting down the days until I go back to work, I've been busy enjoying my "summer off."
Payton was gone to NC without Chad and I for nearly a week starting on July 13th. Chad was in Miami for work. Chad and I enjoyed a few days home with Owen that weekend and we were lucky to enjoy a day out on Matt and Lindsey's boat. On Monday July 18th Chad headed to Boston for another week for work and Owen and I loaded up and headed to North Carolina. We stopped in Charlotte on the way to enjoy dinner with my college friend, Mary. I had not seen Mary in about 2 years and we definitely needed to catch up. It was GREAT to see her and I'm so happy I took the time out of the trip to visit with her. We arrived at Grandma and Grandpa's in Sherrills Ford late on Monday night.
We had a full schedule in Sherrills Ford. Unfortunately, Payton was full of tantrums too! Most days our schedules were altered due to dealing with his temper. We were lucky to see my friend Holly Poovey, we ate at a childhood favorite, Untouchables Pizza, we took the boys to meet everyone at the florist, we played with Connor and Noah and Moses and Rachel, we were able to see most of my cousins and Aunt Moe and Uncle Alfred and spend a little time with each of them, and we were able to eat lunch and visit with my Papaw Joe for an afternoon. I love spending time with my family so it was great to have these days in Sherrills Ford to visit with everyone. We enjoyed our special time with Grandma and Grandpa too and despite the tantrums I know they loved having us there as well!
On Thursday, Payton was very happy to see his Daddy! I picked Chad up from the airport on Thursday afternoon and our adventure continued. We headed a little further north to East Bend to spend a few days with Meme and Pawpaw and visit with Chad's family. Calyn and Carson were also staying with Meme and Pawpaw while Chandra and Allen were hanging out in St. Marteen (jealous!!). We were able to see all of Chad's family as well. Cathy had everyone over for dinner on Friday night which allowed us to see Mawmaw and all of Chad's aunts, uncles and cousins. Bradley, Lisa and Addie were there as well. It was great to see Addie again and Payton enjoyed playing with her - she is almost 1! We saw most of them at least once again on our trip. Payton enjoyed Deana's cookies at Mawmaw's and he enjoyed riding the four wheeler! On Saturday, Meme and Pawpaw had all 4 of their grandkids while Chad and I went to David and Claire's wedding in Winston. Sunday we were able to take the kids to church and see Austin and we enjoyed lunch at the fish camp before hitting the road.
We made one quick stop back by my Papaw Joe's house to celebrate my Mom's birthday. I was so happy that Papaw got to see Payton and Owen one more time before we hit the road. Payton had been a little fussy on our first visit and he did much better on the second trip!
We've been back home for a week and my clothes are still "packed" in the suitcase because I can't seem to find the time to get them out. I've done a hundred loads of laundry. I made it through my 1st night "alone" while Chad was working (I think, maybe I've done this once before but I can't remember!!). Payton was very good for me while Daddy was gone. I made lasagna. The house was cleaned....but it is a mess again. We started potty training on Thursday and this is going well.
Payton went to school this morning around 10:00. I have a hair appointment today at 3:45. Hopefully Owen will cooperate while we are there! I'll be picking Payton up after that and then I'm heading home to leave both boys with Daddy for a few hours! This will be his first time with both of them....I hope it goes well for him. I'm going to attempt to start Operation Mommy Makeover at my first night of Hip Hop with Lindsey. I have been warned that I will not be able to move by tomorrow morning.
Payton's "school year" ends tomorrow. I can't believe that we've made it one year since he started going to the Children's Center. I didn't think I could make it through one week - it was very challenging getting him dropped off, getting to work, and getting him picked up before 6:00. There were MANY days that "Pay Pay" was one of the first there, eating breakfast with Ms. Rachel, and one of the last to be picked up. As I said earlier, he has benefited tremendously from this experience and Chad and I are both looking forward to his upcoming school year. We will attend an end of school party at 3:00 tomorrow and hopefully I'll get some good pictures.
Mommy will get to spend Wed - Friday at home with both of her boys! On Sunday we'll be heading to Wilmington for a week at the beach with Meme and Pawpaw. Looks like the crazy life will continue!
