Have I told you lately that I love you?

On Saturday May 21st, Chad and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary.  I truly can't believe it has been six years.....I'm fairly certain that the last year of our marriage has been the best yet....I hope I continue to say that with each passing year.  I know that Chad is my perfect match and he is definitely the best husband I could have ever asked for!

A blast from the past!
Here a few shots from our beautiful wedding day on May 21st, 2005.
We were married in my home church, Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Sherrills Ford, NC.

This was the last shot of the night 6 years ago.  We headed to Aruba the next morning and started our life as Mr. & Mrs.!  It has been six years - with ups and downs, happy times and sad times, lots of changes for good and bad, new friends, new homes, a whole new state, and two sweet little boys - if I could go back to this exact moment, I know I wouldn't change anything!

Chad and I love to travel and for most of our previous anniversary celebrations, we have gone away for the weekend.  We've had some great anniversary destinations - Asheville, Aruba, and Isle of Palms.  This year, we spent the weekend with our sweet boys!  We are having a weekend away in June as a late anniversary gift....but, our weekend together as a family was perfect for this year.

On Friday night, we had dinner at home and we all watched our wedding DVD.  The boys played around the living room while we watched the ceremony.

We had never actually watched the ceremony, and after six years, it was interesting to sit down and watch it unfold.  A few things seemed to stand out: I cried (A LOT); the sermon was great; there were A LOT of flowers; we were SO skinny; I still love my dress; it looks like we had a lot of fun at the reception....there was a lot of dancing; and, after 6 years, it still made me cry to get a quick glimpse of our wedding day all over again!
The highlight of the night was one of Payton's questions.  As we exited the church, he asked, "Are you going to get me now?"  We asked where he thought he was.  Without hesitation, he answered, "At Harold and Cherie's!"  I love the innocence!  Harold and Cherie are my Godparents.  They had just watched him while we attended my friend Jessica's wedding....in his mind, it would make good sense that he would be at their house while Mommy and Daddy got married!

On Saturday morning, we thought it might be fun to head downtown and act like tourist for a day.  I won a free carriage ride from work and for some reason, we seemed to think we should go take that carriage ride with the boys on our anniversary.  Payton got to visit with the horse before the ride and pretend to drive the carriage.
Before the ride was fun....the actual ride, not so much!

For any others considering this....DO NOT go one a buggy ride with a talkative 3 year old and a loud baby.  We were the only people with kids on the ride and the others in our group stared at us like we were aliens.  The boys really weren't that bad....but the glares were awful.  Near the end of the ride, Payton started saying (repeatedly) that he had to potty.  At the same time, Owen started to cry.  An older lady up front turned and told us not to worry about the baby.  He wasn't bothering us.  The man to my left chuckled and said (very rudely), "You obviously can't hear him."  At this point, we did what any one would do, asked the driver to pull over and we jumped....right off the buggy and onto the side of the street in downtown Charleston.  I may never take another buggy ride in my life.  All the while, I just wanted to scream at the people that it was our anniversary!!

Despite the rocky ride, we pulled it back together and enjoyed lunch at T-Bonz.  I had hoped for something a little more "local" but after the morning we had lived through, I didn't want to push my luck!

The nicest part of the day came around 6 pm.  The door bell rang.....and, the baby sitter's sweet face appeared.  Ahh!  Bliss!  Like I said earlier, the boys weren't really that bad....and overall, we did have a nice morning together....but, a night out was just what we needed.

We hit a few different restaurants before settling down for dinner at the Post House.  We enjoyed a nice dinner together.  We had a great time celebrating together - great food, great conversation, lots of laughs and smiles, and a great time had by all!  For once, I don't think we talked about the kids too much.  It is easy to forget how nice a date night can be....but now that I remember, we might have to try it out more often!

Happy Anniversary to the greatest husband I could have ever wanted!  I'm looking forward to our weekend away and watching the next year unfold!  I love you - for the person you are, the husband you have the become, and the amazing father you are - more and more each day!
