Payton is finally old enough to play organized sports with the Mt P Recreation Dept. I say finally because you can play soccer, t-ball, and flag football with other recreation departments in our area at age 3 but we have been eagerly awaiting the day that he could finally play on the "big boy" teams. This mainly stems from the fact that Payton knows a few boys who are a little older than him who started playing with MPRD last year....so, in his mind, it has been a long wait!
This was also our first experience with Chad acting as the coach. The timing, on so many levels, was just bad for him to be coaching, but he did and we survived. At the end of the season, we both agreed he would never coach again. With Chad and Payton on the field and one big pregnant Momma and and very disgruntled Owen outside the fence, it just didn't go so well. Most nights, I wasn't sure why Owen and I even bothered to go...oh, thats right, because my older son was playing and I was there to support him....never mind the fact that I rarely got to see him play because Owen was either trying to bust through the fence, throwing a baseball in an area he wasn't supposed to be throwing it, walking to the potty, or having an all out meltdown because he wanted to bat/throw/catch/play. The next few seasons, with boy #3 in tow, should be even more fun. It is definitely times like these that in town family members would make all the difference...those families who make it out to the games with grandparents don't seem to have nearly as much trouble as me....or, those families who have both parents on the sidelines, but that just didn't happen.
So, after swearing off coaching, Chad agreed to help Rusty coach the 5-6 year old flag football this fall....did I mention that starts at the end of August. I'm scheduled to have a c-section on September 3rd.....clearly, this will go really well! Oh, and we are signing Owen up for soccer at a different rec league....so, this non-driving, unable to lift mom will be getting Owen to his soccer games, with a newborn, while Chad coaches Payton. Better get used to this...welcome to my life with boys. Never imagined we would have this much "fun" at ages 0, 3, and 5.
Back on track.....T-Ball....age 5-6, summer 2013. Rule #1 - it is ok to skip summer league sports for now. Games 2 - 3 nights a week with a family who traveled every single weekend = recipe for disaster!
While Mom and Dad may have had complaints, Payton surely did not. He LOVED every minute of being on the big boy team. This is why we did it after all and when Owen allowed, it was fun to see Payton having so much fun playing with another team.

The picture quality on here isn't as great as the larger image on my computer, but I have three pictures in a row because you can see the ball in the air with the pitch and the hit.

Batter up!
| another great hit! |
At the end of the season, the kids got trophies...of course. Every kid gets a trophy these days! It was great to see Chad passing out a trophy to Payton.
Coach Chad passes out trophies to the rest of the team. Payton's friend Brook's was on his team for the summer.

Sweet Owen, one day it will be your turn...and Mommy will be there, chasing your little brother, while cheering you on!
