Are we there yet?
Our Christmas journey ends in Sherrills Ford with my parents and my Papaw Joe. This used to be a Christmas morning tradition - complete with sausage and egg casserole - but once Chad and I started celebrating Christmas together we changed it to a Christmas Evening celebration. This year it was complete with prime rib....better than egg casserole if you ask me! We arrived at my parents around 3:00 and rushed to see if Santa had delivered Payton's big present to their house....well, indeed he had! He knew that we would be ending our journey in Sherrills Ford so he must have stopped there last! As usual, my mother's tree was surrounded with a multitude of gifts - all beautifully wrapped and finished off with handmade bows. We no longer use bows....to much risk of crushing while traveling!
Her tree was beautiful as usual. Every year I am amazed at how she manages to get all those ornaments onto one tree - from the tips of the branches to the trunk of the tree. There are so many bright, shiny ornaments - each with a special meaning to her. This is where I get my love of Christmas decorating. I doubt I will ever be quite as detailed as her!!
Mom's wonderful Christmas decorations
Grandma and her favorite little Santa
Payton could care less about all the stress of traveling - he's still a happy, smiling baby when we arrive at Grandma and Grandpa's house. Ho Ho Ho!
"Enough with the hat!"
Santa Delivers to Sherrills Ford
Santa brought Payton a red Radio Flyer wagon, a yellow vacuum cleaner, a cell phone (complete with a camera!), a basketball, football, and soccer ball, a bath toy, and a few new books! His stocking held a Steve Smith Jersey (Mommy's favorite Panther!) and some new food items for Payton. Maybe he'll get candy next year! Apparently, Payton must have been a very good boy this year! We hope he is just as good in 2009!
Payton pulls up to check out his new stack of toys. Yes, he is CLIMBING on his stocking to try to get into the wagon. He immediately focuses on the yellow vacuum cleaner.
Santa must have known that Payton loves our yellow Dyson vacuum cleaner. My grandma gave us the vacuum cleaner as a wedding gift. Anytime Payton sees it he crawls to it and tries to climb up on it. I hate my Nannie could not see Payton receive this toy - she would have loved it! As he plays with it, it sings "I'm going to clean the house today...do da do da," "I'm going to vacuum while I play...do da do da!" If my grandmother had ever invented a child's toy this would have been the one!
Payton tries out his new wagon...and then sits in it for most of the night!
Oh! A cell phone! It vibrates just like Daddy's! The phone was one of his favorite gifts.
While sitting in his wagon, Payton enjoys opening his other presents. This Walk and Ride Dozer, a gift from my Papaw, is a quick favorite.
What a cute boy!
What a cute girl....eating the Christmas wrapping paper!
Lucky for all of you, I got a new computer for Christmas. Chad surprised me with a Mac Book. I LOVE it! Let the blogging continue!
Payton is on the move! He received several walk and ride toys for Christmas and has quickly mastered the art of walking behind them. He'll be walking with no help very soon...too soon for Mommy and Daddy!
We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day. We enjoyed all of our time with each of you. Even though we make jokes about the stress of traveling and packing, packing and traveling, traveling, re-packing, un-packing, and re-packing and traveling...with a 9 month old and a 73 lb yellow lab, spending the holidays surrounded by family makes it worth all the preparation. Spending Christmas Day with so many family members is the greatest gift of all!
Merry Christmas!
