Payton turned 2 on Thursday, March 25th!
What a special day it was! I am amazed at how fast the past two years have gone by. I really does seem like yesterday that Chad and I were spending our last day together as a family of two! I was induced the day after Easter, so that Sunday we enjoyed an Easter service and brunch at one of our favorite spots downtown - Poogan's Porch....funny, I don't remember the rest of the day!! I was induced at 6:30 the following morning, Payton finally arrived at 12:23 AM on Tuesday, March 25th 2008 and the rest is history! That stubborn little fella, aka my precious little angel, is now TWO!!
Unfortunately, Chad had to be out of town Monday - Thursday of that week. My mom agreed to come down from North Carolina late Monday night to help me a little through the week. Since Chad was out of town, I decided to work for most of the day on Payton's birthday and take off on a different day so that we could spend some family time with Payton.
My mom took Payton to school on Thursday morning. The teacher had made a big sign for his door to let everyone know that it was Payton's birthday! She had also made him a birthday hat! He was very happy to announce to all of his classmates that it was, indeed, his birthday! Luckily, I was able to leave work a little early to join my mom at Payton's school for a little birthday celebration - complete with a balloon, chocolate cupcakes, fruit, cheese and crackers! They all sang Happy Birthday to Payton. It was so fun to watch him interact with all his little classmates.
After school, he had a few big surprises waiting on him at home. He loved his HUGE Curious George balloon that Daddy bought for him.
Grandma gave him a new bag to carry his juice and snacks - he loved it! By coincidence, Payton's new bunk beds were also delivered on his birthday (minus the mattress!). He was so excited! The beds had the wooden slats which would normally be covered by the mattress. Payton quickly gathered all of his essential bedtime items (rubby, 2 blankets and his pillow), placed them promptly on his bed and climbed on up!
It was hard to explain that he couldn't sleep there without a mattress!
We also let Payton choose where he wanted to eat for his birthday dinner! Earlier in the week, he had said he wanted chicken nuggets. Luckily, his teacher mentioned he had chicken nuggets for lunch. Wanting to give him a little variety (and hoping not to feed him chicken nuggets twice in one day, we asked him again where he wanted to eat). His next choice was "chips and dip." For those who don't know Payton lingo, "Chips and Dip" = Los Arcos, our favorite Mexican restaurant. The funny part was that my Mom and I had taken Payton to eat Mexican earlier in the week...but, he was indeed the birthday boy, so off we went to eat Mexican yet again!
In honor of his birthday (and mostly because it was Kids Eat Free night), I ordered him a kids meal. He normally shares my chicken and peppers. We were shocked at how much he ate! I guess turning 2 really made him hungry! He had a soft taco, rice, beans, and of course, chips and dip and ate most of the meal!
Of course, in my family, no birthday is complete without a surprise birthday cake. For Payton, my mom had picked up a few cupcakes. After dinner, we enjoyed the birthday cupcakes!
He is so neat! He uses a spoon (which he requested) and eats only the icing!
Yum! Yum!
It was soon time for bed! Payton's 2nd birthday was coming to a close but the celebration would continue for DAYS and we had to get our rest!
