Before we get to the good stuff.....this has nothing to do with the bus....but everything to do with my extreme happiness...my brand new camera! Woo hoo...check it off the list, it has finally arrived! I have been surviving without my DSLR since the end of October....thankfully, my in-laws let me borrow (for an extremely long time) their camera (which was originally my brother-in-laws). So, so very happy to have my new camera....many memories will be captured!
Now, back to the big yellow bus. Payton was adamant about riding the school bus. I wasn't really looking forward to him riding the bus...but, was a little concerned about our schedule in the coming weeks. The thoughts that we considered before agreeing to let our tiny little guy ride that big yellow bus. One, in 10 days, I will have a newborn. Two, this newborn will eat frequently. Three, Owen will be picked up from school every day at 1:00. The car pool line at P's school starts at 2:15. We would live in the car...with the hungry newborn...for at least 2 hours each day. Four, on day one, we tried the car pool line, and after waiting one LONG hour, we finally had Payton in the car. Five, with a great big SUV, waiting in the car pool line for anything in excess of 20 minutes seems wasteful...both for the environment and my wallet. Finally, six, we learned that our bus only comes to our neighborhood and that we already knew a few kids who would be riding. So....we signed over our precious cargo, and let him climb on that big bus.
I was a bit of a nervous wreck all day Thursday. Worried I would miss the bus. Worried he wouldn't get on the bus. Worried he wouldn't get off the bus at the right spot.
Lucky for us, it all worked out!
We walked out of the house about 15 minutes before the bus was set to arrive at the stop just down the street. I was nervous...but, little brother O was SO excited. He was a little confused about why we weren't getting in the car but once he understood he was pumped! He carried his lego car with him to show Payton. He was seriously more excited about Payton getting off the bus than Payton had been about actually riding the bus.
| Just waiting on my big bro! |
Almost right on time, we spotted the bus....who flew right on by...because it loops around the back part of the neighborhood before coming back...of course, I already knew that and didn't get nervous at all :)
Eventually, the bus made the way back around and my little guy was the first one to get off! Yay! He made it...and he LOVED it!
Happy boy...survived day #2 of school and a bus ride home!
On the walk home, we discussed his day...he had lots to say! He saw Ella on the playground AND got to play with her. He went to spanish. He rode the bus home with a boy who played on his baseball team....and, they got the front seat. I told him that Mrs. L had just picked Ella up from school and that I could come to the car pool line the next day...half hoping that he would say yes...but, instead he said, "No way, the bus is way more fun and not nearly as hot!"
Where has the time gone? We have gone from the little boy who screamed with excitement, from his car seat, any time we would see a bus...and a little boy who used to love to sing "the babies on the bus go wha, wha, wha" to the boy who is big enough to ride the big yellow bus and make it home all on his own. Gulp. Time flies when you're a momma!
