M-I-C-K-E-Y...a birthday party indeed!

One day (never) my rambling blog post will be in order.  Today is not that day.

Rewinding back about 2 months to Owen's 3rd birthday party.  In fact, Owen turned 3 exactly 2 months ago...where does the time go?

For the months leading up to Owen's birthday, when I would ask him what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday, he would tell me Cars. He had a Cars birthday last year and I was hoping he might change his mind.  Our trip to Disney did the trick.  From the moment we we arrived at Disney, he was set on a Mickey Mouse birthday party.

Thanks to spending a few days in the world of all things Mickey and after a few Pinterest searches, I had found some great DIY treats and decorations for a Mickey party.  My biggest problem is that I plan my kids birthday parties to the extreme and then have trouble getting everything finished.  When I actually attempt to complete a project, I am a bit of a perfectionist so it takes me a little too long to get things done.  The other problem, of course, is planning a party in one state while holding it in another state.  Just another perk of living away from your family and trying to have a family party without making them travel.

Not to brag, but I was SO proud of all my Mickey decorations that I need a post just for decor!  I think I could be hired to set-up and decorate a Mickey Mouse party...or Minnie...just add a bow!  Everything was so cute and Owen loved it (and Mommy did too!).

The start of the treats - Oreo cookies decorated to look like Mickey.  I started this project at our house...and then made plans to transport.

Step one:
Oreo cookies, red candy wafers - melted in a bowl.

Step two:
Oreo cookies dipped in the melted red "icing" and set out to dry.

Step 3 included packing them up and transporting to NC for the rest of the pieces.
Our niece, Calyn, had planned to surprise me by making these same treats - except on sticks.  I started step 4 at the lake around 11:00pm.  After my family saw how long it was taking, and how long it would take Calyn, they all jumped in.  The perfectionist in me was freaking out but the tried pregnant lady who had spent the entire day cleaning the cabin at the lake and prepping for the party was grateful for their help.  If you looked closely, you could probably tell the difference between the cookies I decorated and the cookies they decorated...but, only if you looked close :)
The family decorating party!
Step four:
Adding the ears - using chocolate candy wafers, melted slighting on one side and stuck to the cookies.

Step five:
Adding Mickey's buttons - white dots with white icing.

The cookies turned out to be SO cute.  Despite the amount of time they did take, it was well work the time and effort.  They were really tasty too!

My mom helped me out with lots of my decorations too...so thankful to have had her help!
Mickey Balloons, Red, Yellow and Black star balloons and adorable Mickey Center pieces...thanks to Pinterest for the idea, thanks to Mom for helping assemble.  These would not have traveled well!
Photo decorations - various photos through the years on Mickey shaped cut outs.

Mickey Mouse shaped rice krispie treats..
Thanks again to my mom who made the treats for me to save me a little time...lesson learned...once you make the rice krispie treats, use cookie cutter immediately to cut out the shape...if not, they get a little hard and are difficult to cut through!

Mickey treats for everyone!

These were indeed SO cute that I couldn't disassemble or throw away.  My mom has graciously stored them and I have promised to use a Mickey Mouse theme for Baby Boy #3's 1st birthday.  At least we have been threw this once...the second go should be pretty easy!

I had so much fun decorating for the Mickey party that it almost made me want to have a Mickey party for myself!  Thanks Mickey for giving endless opportunities for party decor!
