100 years of Carolina Basketball

Friday night was the kick-off for the 100th season of Carolina Basketball.  The evening held a Professional Alumni game, the unveiling of the 2009 National Championship banner with all team members present, recognition of Michael Jordan's induction to the Naismith Hall of Fame and a new banner honoring all Tar Heel Hall of Fame inductees.

Professional players and coaches in attendance.

The game did not start until 8 o'clock so we had to get a sitter for the little guy. Thanks to my friend Bridgett for watching him so we could go! I must say, it is a GREAT year when you see Michael Jordan up close and in person twice! I was so close this time I could have touched him!

Michael Jordan, Dean Smith, Bill Guthridge, Larry Brown, George Lynch, Antawn Jamison, Vince Carter, Julius Peppers, Brendon Haywood, George Lynch, Pat Sullivan, Dave Hanners, John Keuster, Eric Montross, Kevin Salvadori, Jerry Stackhouse, Jeff McGinnis, Dante Calabria, Ed Cota, Brandon Wright, Marvin Williams, Shammond Williams, Jawad Williams, Jackie Manuel, Raymond Felton, Sean May, and the 2009 National Championship team with director of player relations, Eric “Oots”, together in one building and only 4 rows in front of us....impressive! The 2009 Banner was unveiled as well as the new Naismith Hall of Fame banner.

Stackhouse, Peppers, Heywood, Felton...to name a few!

Michael Jordan....AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
I am in awe of very few people....Michael Jordan happens to be at the top of the list.  Dean Smith is second.
It is amazing to be married to a “member of the family.” As a child, I would have NEVER imagined I would have been so close to so many of these amazing athletes.  I can remember sitting in the floor watching Carolina basketball games and thinking those players were so amazing and larger than life...Jeff Lebo, J.R. Reid, George Lynch, Eric Montross.  Once I went to college, seeing the players around campus made them a little more realistic; however, there are still some people who just amaze me!  Several of those people were just a few steps away from me and a few even shook my hand!  When I think back on those childhood memories of Carolina basketball, it is still amazing to sit back and see how many of these amazing athletes and coaches actually call Chad by name - even after nearly 10 years!  Michael Jordan may not call Chad by name but there is still time! Eric “Oots” claims he got a hug this time...and surely he will remember that Payton is his Godson the next time he is in town :).
The man, Coach Dean Smith.

You just have to love Carolina Basketball!
