Movin' on up!

Owen had his 1 month check-up on Friday July 16th.

Weight 8 lb 13 oz
Length 21 1/2 inches
Head Circumference 35 cm
10 fingers, 10 toes, and perfect eyes, ears and nose!

He weighed in at 8 lb 13 oz (up from 7 lb 6 oz just 21 days ago).  He has gained just over 1 ounce per day since his 1 week check-up which is great!  We have the go ahead to let him determine his own feeding schedule and not worry quite so much if he sleeps through that 3 hour mark!

When Payton was 4 weeks old, we got the same go ahead from Dr. S.  I had been a crazy mom who couldn't forget the fact that she was also a pediatric nurse when Payton was born and I set an alarm to wake him up and feed him every 3 hours, even overnight, up to his 1 month visit.  Dr. S quickly pointed out that I was CRAZY and told me to let him sleep as long as he wanted at night.....the result, he slept all night!  There was no looking back...until he jumped out of his crib at 21 months old and quit sleeping all night.

Luckily, I have not been so crazy with Owen.  Now that I know that his weight gain is GREAT, I will be even more laid back.  So, baby Owen....sleep, sleep, sleep!  I'll try not to compare you to your older brother....who may have been one of the best sleeping babies ever....but, if you want to go ahead and start trying to live up to "his standards," then by all means I will not stop you!  Don't worry, I'm still happy to feed you at all hours of the night if needed.

Dr. L was very happy with Owen.  We discussed his fussy period after feedings and he agreed that it is most likely a result of gas and hopefully his stomach will continue to adjust and he will grow out of this quickly.  It could be reflux but I don't seem the classic signs ie: arching of the back with feeds, spit-up, etc.  If it gets worse we will be back in touch.

Dr. L also asked about Payton - he missed his little voice yelling for him from he exam room - and wondered how he was doing as a big brother.
