Owen's 2nd Birthday Party

Happy 2nd Birthday Owen!

If you asked Owen what he wanted for his 2nd birthday (back in June!), he would have said he wanted a "Light-nen Queen Cake!"  Lightening McQueen that is, from Cars.  Owen loves Lightening and Tow Mater.  It was easy to pull off a Cars themed birthday party with a few trips to the store and a few searches on Pinterest.  If I had more time and money, I could have done so much more!  When the kids are older I may try to get into more theme related games for parties.  Either way, this party was a huge success and for the 1st time ever, no rain at the party!

We are so grateful to Allen and Chandra who once again opened their home up to our family for Owen's birthday party.  We were so fortunate to have their help.  Lots of family came to join us for the day and we especially appreciate all of those who had to use a tank of gas to get there!
Deana and Payton playing badminton against the Duke Student from Cathy's church....he was in for a real treat spending the afternoon with our family!

Payton and Deana seem to be winning the game!

Thanks to Harold and Allen for holding up the tent :)

Owen liked my themed party toys most of all.  Owen and his cousin Addie spent a lot of time playing with cars and coloring on the Cars drawings.

Looks a little hot out there!
Mawmaw, Deana and Carson...nice spike!

Eventually, the heat got to be too much to handle...clothes came off and suits went on.  Too bad their wasn't a pool big enough for the adults.  I think we would have all jumped in!

I was especially grateful that Terra, my cousin Brett's wife, was able to bring Connor and Noah to the party.  Payton and Owen love seeing Connor and Noah and I know she went out of her way to be able to be there.  Hopefully the party will be a little closer to her next year!  Connon and Noah enjoyed the party and played with Payton, Owen, Calyn and Carson.  Carson and Noah are just a few months apart in age.  I think they both enjoyed having someone their own size around!

The best part of the day....the food!  NC BBQ followed by cake!

I'm a happy Mommy when I've got a big plate of NC BBQ with vinegar based sauce.

YAY!

The whole gang!

....and, with birthdays, come presents.  Owen was all about opening his gifts.  His big brother has always been on the giving side.  This quality has not been passed on to Owen yet.  He would have opened presents all day long!

Bubbles!
A race car!

So excited about a card with "money-s"
A steering wheel for his new "house"

"A shirt!"
As far as Mommy is concerned, a birthday is really "all about the CAKE!"  This cake was yummy!

"My Lightening Queen Cake!"

A cookie cake that Grandma made for Owen....because a few days earlier he didn't eat cake!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Owen, Happy Birthday to you!
Birthday cake would not be complete without a freezer or two of homemade ice cream.   Honestly, I may have gained 5 lbs in one afternoon but it was hard to pass up all my favorites....we started with fresh fruit, had a dish of hot beefy dip, BBQ for the main entree and cake and ice cream to finish it off.  Everyone was stuffed!

After all that sun, fun and food, things were finally starting to wind down.

In the distance, the twins were sneaking in a game of one-on-one.  I saw 1 of them hit more shots than the other...but, I'll never tell who it was!

One big cake!

As the sun was fading and the party was winding down, Owen was all smiles.  This was a great big day for such a little guy!

Thanks to everyone for your support on his day and for all the great gifts...and especially to all of our family who always helps us pull off these big events.
