I was so happy to be able to celebrate President's Day with Chad at home for the day. Boys out of school, Mommy off work, Daddy off work....perfect day!
We spent the morning cleaning up a little and attempting to get Owen to pee pee on the potty. This wasn't our 1st attempt and it won't be our last. Owen does NOT want to sit on the potty...and he really doesn't have any interest in making any pee pee in the potty.
There was one time, months ago where he was really excited about the potty and for a few days he used the potty. Things changed.
All of the tricks we used with Payton....successfully....do not work with Owen.
He does not care that he has really cool Batman underwear.
He does not care that all of his friends already use the potty.
He does not care that if he would wear big boy underwear he would be able to run faster.
He does not care that the Panthers and the Tarheels all use the potty...and, none of them wear diapers. He agrees with us, but he does not care.
He is a little bit interested in a prize but today, we had to use a prize just to get him to sit on the potty.
He did sit on the potty today...forever...and told us over and over that no pee pee was coming.
We eventually put a diaper back on and of course, just a few minutes later...pee pee in the diaper!
Every single day he tells us he will go pee pee in the potty "too-mAr-oooo."
Tomorrow may never come.
I guess next Friday I will have to be the mom who spends the entire day chasing him around with timers and prizes and the potty. It is time for Owen to wear his big boy underwear!
Despite the lack of potty training success, we still had a great day and the boys were on their best behavior. We treated them to a family lunch at Boulevard Diner....yummy local food. It was a great treat. Owen took a nap....for the second day in a row...after falling asleep in the car...thank you! Mommy took a nap too. Daddy worked in the yard. Payton must have taken 500 shots...the entire time I was napping, I could hear him faintly in the background dribbling and shooting. Once I woke up, I helped in the yard too and he continued shooting and playing baseball alone. Owen joined him soon after. It was a great afternoon to have them outside playing instead of glued to another cartoon! So thankful for good behavior on this long weekend.....especially after Friday started off a little rocky!
As for President's day, it is exciting that Payton has learned all about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in his preschool class. He knows lots of great facts about both of them. He even knows that Lincoln was President during a time of sadness while our country was fighting and he knows that "we" lost after every one was killed in the fight (maybe a stretch, but he's got the basics!). He knows Obama is our current President too. It is great to see his little mind growing with new knowledge every day!
This past Sunday, in our 11th grade Sunday School class that we teach, we used the Presidents as an ice breaker to get started. We asked them to list the 1st ten in order - we were both curious to see what they would know. A few of the kids had just studied this in school and were able to list them quickly. One boy, Harry, not only listed all 10 in order but went on to tell us he had them all memorized, so we tested him. Yes, he knows them all. He rattled off every single President! Impressive! One day, he'll win Jeopardy!
Sunday night, I was able to go see this same kid, Harry in the high school's production of Grease. We also knew the girl, Grace, who was playing the leading role of Sandy. It was great and I was impressed. One of the benefits of a huge high school is a pool of really talented students. Grace attends our church and helps in the nursery. She is one of the nicest girls! She did an amazing job acting, singing and dancing! So proud of her! Grease was a little too mature for Payton, but I'm excited to have a chance to take him to his first live play sometime soon. I think he would really enjoy it!
We are all back to work and school tomorrow!
