Easter in East Bend

Hippity, Hoppity, Easter is on the way!

We arrived in East Bend VERY late on Thursday night.  Payton briefly woke up to say hello and then headed to bed for the night.  Amazingly, he still woke up shortly after 7:00 - about an hour earlier than normal!  Meme was happy to get him though!

Pawpaw had big plans for us on Friday.  We all headed to Walkertown to see the house where Chad's Great-grandfather West had lived and where his Grandmother, Margret West Webb, had been raised.  You can see it was a little rainy.  We snapped our pictures and then headed to the cemetery where they had been buried.  This will go down as one of Payton's first history lessons.  Holly, we may be related!

Saturday brought lots of fun!  Payton enjoyed playing with Calyn and Carson most of the day.  Payton has learned to mimic Carson - which is good and bad.  He is a quick learner.  He has now started yelling - ahhh - just like Carson does!
Thanks to Uncle Allen and Aunt Chandra we were prepared to dye Easter eggs for the first time!  Payton took one look at the eggs and proudly proclaimed "ball!"  Of course!  He thinks everything round is a ball.  He confused a tomato for a ball in the grocery store this week!  The egg dying was a big success.  We even had time to "hide" the eggs for Payton to find.  He quickly cracked one as he dropped from 2 feet up into the basket.
Cousins Carson, Calyn and Payton get ready for the big egg dye. Calyn and Carson were very helpful for his first experience.  Calyn even made an egg that said "Payton's First Egg Dye"

Payton looks very intense as he watches the egg drop into the dye.  He actually paid very close attention for the 3o minutes it took to dye all the eggs.  I was amazed that he did not want to get down and run around.
The finished product.  The orange egg on the bottom has a little scribble on it.  Payton was the artist for this one!
National Champs!  Payton's great-aunt Deana made a special trip to Chapel Hill to make sure all the kids (and adults!!) had an official National Championship T-Shirt.  We were all happy to have our first 2009 National Championship shirt and copy of the DTH.  This is Payton's first ever National Championship shirt....Thanks Deana!
Calyn helps Payton learn to find the easter eggs.  He dropped the eggs from this height as well!
Trouble!  Payton quickly learns to do everything Carson does.  Clap, Clap, Clap!  Unfortunately, Carson enjoys jumping in front of Payton and yelling "ahhh."  Today at church, Payton saw a little boy about Carson's age running by - Payton yelled "ahhh."  For the last week Payton has been doing this....and yes it is "ahhh" in addition to his  "roaaaaaar" that he does like a lion.  It suddenly hit me at church that Payton has been copying Carson all week and that the thinks all little boys yell "ahhh."  Why do little boys do this???
How sweet!  So, yes, there is a very sweet side to Carson too!  He is a cute little cuddle-bug like Payton...when he's (Payton and Carson) not running around crazy!  I think Payton is going to be a lot like Carson.  Overall, this is a good thing!  After dying eggs and playing outside, Carson and Payton had to rest for a few minutes on the couch.  They were both so sweet and calm!

I hate you apparently did not get to Payotn's Great, Great, grandpa Fleming's house! His Great Great Uncle Austin would have been so happy to see him and get a picture! Austin takes so much pride in keeping his yard looking good and would have been thrilled to have him there even if for only a few moments! I ask Austin if he got to hide any eggs? He and Clyde use to spend hours hiding eggs for us on Easter!! What great uncles!! or great, great in Payton's case. And what a great farm he has!

Or even his great great grandaddy and gandma Doub's ....house another great farm...maybe next time or maybe you just could not post all the pictures!

All kids love the farms so much! I hope he can get to them one day to really understand all of his heritage!

Payton you were such a sweet boy as always during your visit! It was so much fun to watch all the grandchildren die eggs and have fun together! I can hardly wait until you come again. Maybe you can come this summer and we can play alot with Calyn and Carson!
