"Zoom...up in the sky!"
The Blue Angels came to Charleston to perform over the Charleston Harbor. What a wonderful sight!!
On Saturday April 17th we enjoyed a great day downtown with Matt, Lindsey, Ella, and Alex and Andrew and Laura.
We started with lunch at Taco Boy...yummy!
After lunch we headed to the aquarium for a quick trip to see the animals and fish. The penguins and otters were both very active and swimming around - 2 of our favorites!
We also got to see the new albino alligator - which is pretty gross if you ask me!
After about 45 minutes in the aquarium, we headed outside to see the main attraction - The Blue Angels.
Payton and Ella had to have suckers - which made for one sticky mess on a warm Charleston afternoon!
Everyone had been talking about the Blue Angels coming to town. While working downtown through the week, I was able to hear them practicing through the week and on Friday, Chad and I saw all 6 of them fly directly over our house!
The show was starting! As expected, Payton was very excited!
Ella looking on as the show started.
What an awesome sight! At one time, they flew only 50 feet above the water in the harbor - surrounded by boats, the bridge, the port, thousands of spectators, and the USS Yorktown. They were so fast and so loud!

Look....up there! Its a bird! Its a plane! No, its a Blue Angel and its flying 400 mph while upside down!!
They went straight up...and came straight back down!
I must admit I wasn't super excited about the Blue Angels - I had heard they put on a good show but I really only wanted to go because I thought Payton would really enjoy seeing the airplanes up close. I left with a different opinion....it was great to see the Blue Angels! Payton did love them as expected and Chad and I also really enjoyed the show. They were AWESOME! In the future, I would advise anyone who has a chance to go see the Blue Angels and I hope to see them again as well. It was really a thrilling, spectacular display! A few of the "stunts" made my heart drop and the hair on my arms stand straight up! I have a whole new respect for all military pilots!
