The boys had their first day at their new school the first Tuesday after Labor Day. They attended their previous preschool for years...Payton started there at 18 months, Owen at 3 months. They had their last day there on July 31st. We spent the month of August on the road and surviving at home while Mommy was making big transitions at work. We were all happy when the day finally arrived to start our new school!
Payton was most excited, as he had the greatest understanding, and was really looking forward to getting started with his new teachers and making new friends. He had been asking for weeks about when exactly he would be starting. We had been to meet their teachers and see their new classrooms and luckily this had only added to the excitement.
I love that my job has changed and I love that Chad has a flexible schedule. We were both able to drop them off on their first day. We walked them into their classes and quickly said our goodbyes as they adjusted to new surroundings.
Owen was a little unsure of this new adventure. Payton did his best to distract him in his room. He cried as we walked away but overall he had a great first day. It took a few days and a few drop offs before the tears stopped....they were brief, but it's never easy to see them cry! Owen LOVES his teachers and we love that he loves his days at school!
As for Payton, he really didn't need us at all! He remembered what Mrs. B had explained to him on his classroom tour and he was ready to go! Bag and lunchbox in hand, he entered his new class like a big boy....a smiles!
He found his name and moved it to the correct place to show he had arrived!
Mom and Dad peeked through the classroom window one last time...he had found his seat and his pencils...ready to begin his day! I'm so thankful for this kid who loves school and loves to learn. Yes, he is loud and easily excitable but he learns to hear about new things and comes home telling us all about the exciting things he has learned. His first day went great and we were happy to hear all about it! He quickly impressed his new teachers with his wealth of sports knowledge and his uncanny ability to link sports teams to various states in the US. For example, a classmate mentioned the city of Chicago - Payton quickly told them that if they did go to Chicago, they could go see the Chicago Cubs or the Chicago Bears. Wonder where he gets this from!?! He has continued to adjust well to his new setting and learns more and more each week. We are so happy he is with Mrs. B and Mrs. S, they are great!!
My first "mom" project was to make a sort-of paper doll replica of our child. We were supposed to make it similar to our child. They were going to guess which paper doll was of them as they learned about their body. I maaaay have gone a little overboard, but my inner artist came out and I had so much fun making my little Payton....would you have been able to guess this was my sports loving wild child?
Complete with his HB jersey, a ball of every kind, a glove, a bat, a golf club and a golf bag, his golf hat, and blue shoes....of course, he said all the balls made him think it was him!
On the back, I was asked to list his likes, dislikes, favorite shows, favorite movies and favorite characters.
His Likes: Apples, Blueberries, Cheerios, Honey, Basketball, Football, Baseball, Soccer, Golf, the Tarheels, Pickles, reading, dancing, the USA, flags and soldiers
Dislikes: Lettuce, Tomatoes, Duke Blue devils, Nap time
Favorite Show: Fresh Beat Band
Favorite Movies:
Spiderman, The Sandlot, Cars, Toy Story
Favorite Characters:
Captain America, Spiderman
One thing is sure, when the "first day" rolls around next year and I'm taking my big boy to kindergarden, I will most likely cry....A LOT!
