Go Apps!!

Last Friday was the start to another big weekend here in Charleston. Matthew, Katie and Jacob Alspaugh arrived around 6:00 for the start of a fun-filled and active weekend. The Appalachian State Mountaineers were in town to play the Citadel Bulldogs. Fortunately, Matthew, Katie and Jacob are big App State fans and came in town for the big game. They were here two years ago as well. We were so happy to have them visit. We rarely see them - we last saw them over Christmas when Payton was only 9 months old and Jacob was about 22 months. I was very interested to see how they would interact now that Payton is 18 months old and Jacob is 2 1/2. It was so much fun to see them playing together! Jacob warmed up shortly after arriving and they were big buds for the rest of the visit!

Friday night we had dinner at one of our most requested places....California Dreaming! It was an interesting dinner because we were seated at an elevated table and Payton had to use a booster seat. He actually did pretty good - I doubt we'll intentionally try it again too soon but it will work in some situations! They stayed up late playing and we stayed up late talking! It is great catching up with friends!

Saturday we headed out early for the game. We posed for a few pictures before loading the car! Jacob was so nice to let Payton borrow an App State t-shirt. Payton had a shirt when he was smaller but has since outgrown that shirt.

Clearly, they are already good buds! Hugs all around! It was a beautiful day. Very hot and sunny at the 1 o' clock game!

Payton's cheeks were red within about 10 minutes, I applied sunscreen about 5 times, and he had an entire bottle of Gatorade because they ran out of water....red sugar!! He loved it of course. Grandpa will be very happy to know that he also ate his fair share of hot boiled peanuts...and kept asking for more!

Boiled peanuts and black olives...he's mine! Payton and Jacob both did great throughout the game.

Payton fell asleep with about 5 minutes to go in the game. He was exhausted! The Mountaineers managed to pull out a win in a pretty ugly game! Jacob tried to teach Payton to say "Go Apps!"

After the game, we had dinner at Sticky Fingers (another Alspaugh request!). We were stuffed! After dinner we walked ALL OVER downtown - down Meeting Street, to the battery, back up East Bay, through Waterfront Park and out on the pier and back to the car.

Payton enjoyed playing on the canons for the first time.
What a wonderful way to end a day! Another beautiful sunset over Ashley River.
It was clearly a beautiful night to be downtown and we all enjoyed it! The boys got to run and play in several areas. They did so good together!

Unfortunately, Sunday came to quickly. They headed back to NC as we headed out to church. We had a great weekend with the three of them! Payton still walks around the house saying Jacob! Payton and Jacob are similar in so many ways - their looks, their body build and their personalities! As they get older, the 11 month difference will not play a factor and they are sure to be buds just like their dads! We are looking forward to seeing them again soon!
