A day at the beach

In my current position, I work 4 days per week...most of my friends, coworkers and probably my spouse would laugh at that statement.  I find that I spend at least half of my day on Friday "working from home."  I check my emails constantly, make phone calls, call in prescription refills, etc.  It is certainly not what I would call a "day off" but at least I am at home...most of the time.  The worst part is that I never know what Friday will hold, so the kids end up going to daycare for most of the day.  A few weeks ago, I didn't take them to daycare and I didn't check my email....I enjoyed a day with my boys...and it was GREAT!   We headed out to Sullivan's Island for a few hours at the beach. Our time started with a long walk...Mommy needed some exercise...and ended with about an hour of playing in the sand.
My boys ready for a day at the beach!

We live 10 minutes from the beach but we rarely have the time to enjoy it...while I was there on this day, I took time to enjoy it....the sights and sounds...and I tried to soak it ALL up.  It was refreshing!

As we walked down the beach, we got closer to the Sullivan's Island Light House.  Payton, who was being a really good sport during Mommy's long walk asked if we could walk all the way up to the light house.  I said yes.  I love light houses and as much as I hate to admit it, I had only looked at this one from a distance, I had never walked directly to it.  I thought it would be fun so we headed up to the light house.  If any of you have ever pushed a double stroller through loose sand on the beach, you know how much of a workout it can be.  Add to that that we had already been walking and running for a long time.  The beach trail leading from the beach up to the light house is nothing but loose sand.  By the time we made, I thought I was going to die...really...my heart was beating out of my chest.  We took a nice little break checking out the light house....the worst part was that once we were done, we had to get back out onto the beach!  We survived and I burned a few extra calories.  I learned my lesson though...never attempt to go out onto the beach at that station, alone, pushing the stroller...I much prefer our station that has a nice board walk and very little loose sand!!
A well earned picture!

It's a bird, it's a plane.....no, it was TWO army helicopters hugging the coast line.  They greeted us as we made it back to the beach.  They were so close to us and the boys loved it!

And finally, it was time to play!  These sweet boys were perfect!  We played in the sand.  Payton wrote his ABC's in the sand and Owen enjoyed playing with bubbles.  I was actually sad that our time had to come to an end.

I am so thankful for the little days like this one.  I love being forced to stop and spend a day doing nothing but spending quality time with my boys.  I hope we have many more perfect days at the beach this summer!
