I'm big on holidays...especially those that involve special treats just for me (sorry, I'm an only child!!)! Actually, I love all holidays and I especially love Mother's Day and Father's Day because they are great reminders of all that our parents do for us...all the time! They were always special days in my home growing up and I like to continue that with our family. Nothing to special....just a nice day to celebrate Mom. We spent our entire day celebrating Mommy and I loved it!
I woke up to three sweet boys (that's counting Chad!) telling me Happy Mother's Day and giving me precious cards! Owen was ADORABLE saying "Hap-ee Mov-ers Day!" Payton is clearly a Daddy's boy - he handed me my Mother's Day card, watched me open the card and then asked, "When is Father's Day?" I replied, "In June." He asked, "What day exactly? What is the date? I don't want to miss it!" Seriously kid?!?! You are my first born and it is clear to everyone that you are a Daddy's boy but, on Mommy's Day, you have got to learn to be a little bit of a Mommy's boy! Don't worry, we won't miss Father's Day - it falls just after Owen's birthday and just before my other special day, my birthday. We should be celebrating my birthday by then anyway......
This isn't really related to Mother's Day, but funny either way! In church, Payton likes to do the Children's Bulletin. This page asked for him to draw a picture of him. His self-portrait includes a jersey with a #40! Basketball season might be over for most of you but it is still going in this kid's head! I teared up as I looked down to see this adorable self-portrait on his page.
In the past two weeks, both Payton and Owen's teachers had asked for them to bring in a picture of their Mom. I quickly learned that we had very few pictures of me with either boy since last summer. I know its because I'm always taking the pictures but it made me really sad! I love pictures and I love to have them for memories. I've been trying to do a much better job of taking the time to ask to have my picture made - with one of both boys - over the past few weeks. On Mother's Day, we paused after church for a few pictures.
I couldn't resist Owen's face....I'm sure he is saying "cheeeessseee!"
Payton has his Mother's Day gift he made in Sunday School - it is a flower that says "I love my Mommy because she plays basketball with me." Sweet boy....at least I still have him fooled and he doesn't notice my bad shots! In a few years, it may say that he loves because because I don't play ball with him!
We were on our front porch and Chad was attempting to get a picture of just me with the boys...which is what I wanted after realizing I have no pictures with just me. Our sweet neighbors were walking by as we were doing this and insisted they take a family picture. I had to laugh because I actually didn't even want a family picture. I am so glad they stopped because this is one of the best family pictures we have had in quite a while! Both boys looking is huge challenge!
In this shot, you can see Bailey is trying her best to get in on the shot!
Payton and Owen decided they should be Chevy models and posed themselves up against my dirty car! Maybe I should submit this for an advertisement. Funny how posed Payton looks!
Finally, I got the picture I had been waiting for....just Mommy and her boys!
At Payton's request, we do 1 funny shot for every serious shot!
Mommy and her "sweet angel"
Mommy and Payton
Funny face! It wasn't planned for us to make the same funny face.
I love this kid :)
We are so thankful for all of the Mom's in our lives and hope that each of you had a wonderful day as well!
Thanks to Chad, Payton and Owen for my sweet cards and my new necklace with both boys initials. I will wear it with lots of love! I love you boys!! You made my day extra special and I enjoyed spending a nice day together going to church, having a fancy lunch (at Wild Wings...Payton's request), relaxing at home, playing and shopping (at Harris Teeter!). It was great to be with all of you all day long, celebrating my special day right up to bed....as both boys went to bed still telling me Happy Mother's Day...it was the best! Being a Mom is certainly one of the greatest gifts of all!

Love the family shot and the one of you and your boys! You are right - it is rare for mom to get a shot with just her and the kids. I need to do a better job of that, too.
