Up next....Lent

Is it possible that Easter is just six weeks away? Really?

Seems like I just had a baby last week...it was late summer, sunny and 90 degrees.

Suddenly, reality tells me that my baby is SIX MONTHS old (what?!?!), summer turned to fall and fall turned to winter and spring is on the way.  Hard to believe that spring is on the way considering we had snow and ice yesterday and the kids were out of school of school today for another snow day.

Based on my google searches for matching boys Easter outfits and my brain searches for what I will give up for this lenten season, it is abundantly clear that Easter is on the way.  Here comes Peter cotton tail...hippity, hoppity, Easter's on the way!

This year, my lenten journey means more to me than it has in the past few years.  For the past 2 or 3 years, we have been lucky to be members of a small group Lenten study.  Since we have moved, we won't be able to complete a study with our old church.  My goal was to find a new church home by...umm, well, tomorrow....because I desperately wanted to find a new small group and Lenten study group.  No such luck.  I feel confident in my current plans to make this season successful.

Writing down my goals helps me stick to them...so, here's the plan:

1) Giving up Diet Coke - for real.  Went to dinner tonight for one last big, fatty meal and one last Diet Coke...God laughed as the restaurant only served Pepsi products.  Looks like I gave up Diet Coke at lunch today.  Well played, God, well played.    It's more about starting to live a little more healthy than just the Diet Coke...the Diet Coke is just the best place to start.  I've done it before and I'll do it again.  Hubby is giving it up too!

2) As in years past, I am planning to blog daily.  With all that is going on is our life - baby, move, job search, home search, children growing, church search - I have LOTS to document.  It is calming and rewarding to me to sit down for a few quiet minutes and write.  Not sure what I will write - maybe just enough to share a quote or a thought - but, I will attempt to write something daily.

3) Daily devotional in the form of a book that a friend gave me when I had Sawyer.  I'll be reading Out of the Spin Cycle over the next few weeks.  If I finish, I'm going to plan to move on to another book written by Jen Hatmaker - Seven.  I'm looking forward to growing as I read through some of her books.  I hear such wonderful things and it's time I experience them for myself!

This year, I'm making time for ME.  This transition has sucked a little of "me" out of me every single day...it's time to bring "me" back and I think this is a good start.

What are you doing for Lent?  It's a great time to try something new....quiet time, a daily devotion, more bible reading, a new small group study...just do it!

Unrelated, but worth mentioning....

Sawyer had his six month visit yesterday.  I LOVE our new pediatrician.  Sawyer's stats:
18 lbs, 1 oz
26 1/4 inches long
Happy, healthy, smiling, giggling, squealing, babbling, and rolling all over the place

Today - March 4th - Sawyer sat up on his on (as in, he was able to remain sitting for more than 30 seconds without falling over).

Also, today, March 4th, I had a second interview for a second job at Baptist.  It went great!  Still waiting on some details to be worked out but I feel good about having a job by the end of the week.  Planning to start sometime in April and as hard as it might be, I'll be jumping back into the world of a full time working Mommy.  I've been blessed with a little of both worlds and know that working full time with three kids will bring on a new set of challenges...but, deep down, I know that I am also meant to be a nurse.  I wish I could find a more part-time job but the job I have found is very exciting....I'll write more about it in the next 40 days....but, I prayed that God would lead me to the perfect job and today, I felt pretty sure that he had answered that prayer.  Thankful to have some pieces of the 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle falling into place!

More tomorrow.....happy Fat Tuesday!
