Mr. Winter

Dear Mr. Winter,

You have made a last impression and we would like you to leave now.

Thank you very much!

Just another parent concerned about too many snow days

We moved back to NC just before Thanksgiving.  It was chilly as soon as we arrived.  Bye, bye flip flops.  Hello big coats.

I told myself I was excited to have seasons and excited for the boys to see snow.

They got snow gear and big coats for Christmas.  They also got two cool sleds.  I hoped they would get a chance to use the sleds.

They did.  Move along now Mr. Winter.

The first few snow days were a result of extra low temperatures.  Three degree mornings meant buses wouldn't crank and even though the sun was shining, the kids were at home....for days...with Mommy while Daddy was out of town.  That was fun though because we were able to get out of the house. Chandra and I even went shopping.

The next round came with lots of dry snow but little accumulation.  We played.  We were able to drive around.  That was also fun.  It melted quickly.  The kids were out of school.  We did have to drive to Raleigh in the mess...I did blow a tire and have to stand in it for while my tire was fixed...that was not so fun...but, we survived.

The next round brought at least a foot of snow.  Maybe 16 inches.  We played and played and played.  We lost power.  We spent one night at Meme and Pawpaws.  We enjoyed vegetable soup.  We had to have our driveway scraped by the wonderful Uncle Allen so we could get out for our kid free weekend.  We made it out.  The snow melted.  That was fun...but, being trapped and losing power not so much fun.  The kids were out of school.

This week....just plain over it!

Monday night...the snow, sleet and freezing rain started.  We headed off to Chapel Hill for the game.  We made it their safely but driving home wasn't really fun...at all.  We made it safely but I don't want to do it again.  Two hours on icy, slushy roads is not fun.  The kids were out of school on Tuesday.

Last night, it started again.  I didn't even look out the windows.  Rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain....the ground was white and icy this morning.  The kids were obviously out of school today.

While I am over the weather, I must say that today was a fun day to have the kids at home.  Chad hung around for the day as well - by the time it warmed up enough to venture out, it was too late to actually venture out and be productive - the kids were actually good all day long.  They played games.  We read books. They played with their leapsters...so happy we brought those up from SC.  Headphones and silence for hours!  Owen has been tracing letter after letter after letter and Payton has been doing lots of puzzles and number games.  Sawyer was a sweet boy, of course.  Daddy did a little studying and Mommy got a few things done around the house.

We ventured out tonight for dinner with Chandra, Allen, Calyn and Carson.  Dinner was great.  Doughnuts from Krispy Kreme were even better!!  The boys loved watching them make the doughnuts.

We finished off the night with a few bible stories and a devotion about self-control....perfect timing for Owen who is in the midst of melt down central!

Finally, with snow still on the ground, this day is winding down.  I am ready for winter weather to make way for spring flowers, birds chirping and flip flop weather...but, I am thankful the boys have experienced snow, lots of it!  Tonight, I think I am most thankful that we have power and heat...many people are without it tonight...they will be in my prayers!

Tomorrow, it's warming up again...and we have a full day....birthday party, family time, Payton's basketball banquet and UNC vs. Duke.
