The Dean Dome

Last weekend we packed up and hit the road.  This time, Payton and I made an overnight stop with my parents and spent a few hours with my Papaw Joe, who had been discharged from the hospital.  After a brief visit, we picked Chad up in Charlotte and made a mad dash for Chapel Hill.  It felt so good to see the stretch of I-40/I-85 between Greensboro and Chapel Hill....almost felt at home on that stretch of the interstate.  I can't count the number of times Chad and I have traveled that section of road - with or without each other - but in the past year we have only traveled that direction twice!  Amazing how beautiful I-40 can be to a misplaced North Carolina girl!!

Anyway, more importantly, we were heading to Chapel Hill for the UNC v. Virginia game....Payton's first trip to the Dean Dome for a basketball game!  We had dinner with Eric and Amy, Johnny, Jenny, and Kade on Friday night.  Saturday was a BIG day...little Payton had lunch at Elmo's and then had to get prepared for the game.  You can see how cute he looked in his #1 UNC Nike jersey.  We have had this jersey in holding since October...finally the perfect place to wear it!!  Unfortunately, #1, Marcus Ginyard is out for the season.

Payton was actually very attentive.  He would move his head from side to side to see the court below.  Sitting with a 10 month old on our laps for 2 hours in the most cramped area was actually easier than I expected!
Johnny, Payton, and Kade.  Sorry you couldn't join us Hilary!  We hope to see you soon!  You would have loved to have seen Johnny crawling on the floor while playing with Payton.
Long sleeve, short sleeve - as Chad refers to his typical game day outfit - Payton went with the same look!

Payton really enjoyed the Heels victory and is anxiously awaiting his return for his first UNC v. Duke game in the Dean Dome.  He is hoping that Tyler passes J.J. for the all time ACC scoring leader during his last home game at UNC.  He knows Mommy does not like J.J. at all!

Payton does not know how lucky he is to be able to attend these games in Chapel Hill.  We hope he will grow up to love the game and the place as much as we have.  We also hope he'll be able to attend a few games outside of the Dean Dome later in the season!
Go Heels!

Payton you were cute as usual in your UNC basketball shirt! I have waited six days to see you at the Dean Dome. I sure do miss you but I look at the blog or listen to you laugh on my phone. I love that wonderful laugh-just like your meme! I know you will have fun with grandma and grandpa this week-end. HAPPY VALENTINES!
