Children's Museum of the Lowcountry

Chad and I were lucky to have President's Day off - one perk of working as a school nurse!  Again, we decided to put off those chores and spend the day with Payton.  This morning we headed off to the Children's museum for the first time.  The Children's Museum is downtown.  My parents gave us a year long membership for Christmas.  THANKS!  We loved it!

The museum is designed with all ages in mind.  We were worried Payton would be too little to have fun - we were wrong!  The museum has one room full of tracks that you can roll golf balls down, one full of water toys, a life size shrimping boat, a grocery store complete with produce and a scanner, the baby room with soft toys and smaller stairs and slides, an art room, and a room with a castle.

We started in the room with all the golf balls.  Payton enjoyed watching the balls speed around the different tracks.  He laughed at the first set and eventually learned to let go of the balls and place them on the different tracks.

We migrated into the baby room.  I loved it because it was a room filled with toys just perfect for Payton.  He crawled up and down stairs, through open holes and tunnels, crawled up a ramp, used the slide, and his favorite was the mirrors he could see his face in.  I was happy to see Payton interact with another little girl and boy playing in the room.  As he crawled out of the tunnel below, they greeted him.  I held my breath to see how he would react.  He laughed and smiled.  Perfect!
The grocery store.  The store is filled with everyday items.  There are shopping carts to gather groceries, scales to weigh the produce, a seafood section, and a cash register complete with a scanner and display screen to show the total.  How cool!  Chad was very impressed because he and Chandra used to pretend they were grocery store clerks when they were younger.  If only they had been members at the Children's Museum!!
Shrimp Boat Captain for a day!
Payton really interacted in the water room. This is a sloped ramp with water flowing down.  You place plastic boats at the top and watch them float down the "river."  Payton was mesmerized by this water and the boats.  As we were finishing up, we sent one last boat down - the biggest one.  At the bottom, Payton decided to pick it up.  As he did, he poured water directly on his face.  No tears, just shock!  It was so funny!
To all Charleston area moms, we highly recommend a trip to the Children's Museum.  To all of our out of town family members, maybe we can take you to watch Payton play one day!  The older he gets the more fun it will be to run and play.

Thanks again Grandma and Grandpa for this GREAT gift! We look forward to many more fun filled days!

What fun to see a new picture and story of Payton and his family every day! Chad is a great one to play grocery store. I am so sorry Chandra wasn't there to help him teach Payton how to play. I am so glad you all had such a great day. As you can see children grow so fast and Payton will be like my children grown and gone but the grandchildren are just as much fun! Love you all!
