I forgot to mention in my previous post that our lovely little angel decided he no longer had any use for his crib. On Sunday, December 20th during his afternoon nap (which had been pushed back way too long) he climbed out of his crib so he could pick up his "rubby" blanket that he had thrown out of his crib. Chad and I didn't even hear him hit the floor. We quickly realized what had happened when his door opened and he was standing at the top of the steps. So much for a quiet afternoon! Even worse, so much for a peaceful Christmas vacation at our parents. On Monday night he did sleep in the crib but we found him standing in Meme and Pawpaw's room on Tuesday morning. That was the last night he used a crib. We tried every possible option over the following nights. A mattress in the floor, couch in the guest room, twin bed...and unfortunately, the bed with us. It made for a slightly exhausting week! I am honestly surprised he had not decided to escape from his crib much earlier.
It was very difficult to try to start a new sleeping arrangement while traveling and away from the child-proof rooms we have created at home. Luckily, we had already started planning of Payton's new "Big Boy" room. The plan is to order him twin bunk beds and put them in the guest room across the hall from his nursery.
My wonderful husband bought me the Pottery Barn Kids bedding set that I have been wanting for Payton's new room. Of course, it will be sports themed. I can't wait to see the new room once it is complete.
For now, Payton has nearly adjusted to sleeping in a double bed in that same room. We usually have one or two episodes each night where he calls for one or both of us into his room. I'm happy to report that he has only made his way into our bed twice. Once we have a completely kid-friendly room for him I will feel much more comfortable about leaving him alone to go back to sleep.
