After breakfast at Mawmaw's, our next stop was at Carlton and Darlene's to celebrate Christmas morning with the Webb family.
Christmas 2008

This was our first Christmas without Poppy, Chad's grandfather and Payton's namesake, who passed away last January. The annual Christmas morning gathering was another reminder of this but as always, it was great to spend more time with Chad's family. Carlton and Darlene, Dalton and Lynn, Michael, Christie and new hubby Brandon, and Aunt Gail were all waiting for the rest of us to arrive from Chad's Mawmaw's house. One we all arrive, it definitely makes for a full house!
We don't really exchange gifts with Chad's family but I always love to see what small tokens we have each chosen to pass out to the family. We always leave with some great baked goods, cookies, country ham, and a great new candle. Payton got a few great gifts this year...again, more than he needed! He got two new Thomas trains (to go with his train table from Santa that he had not received yet!) a neat green tractor, and a little money which Mommy and Daddy have put away for now. He has really enjoyed playing with all of these gifts.
Darlene normally hides from the camera....but I caught her this time!
Payton always loves to see Chad's uncles - Dalton and Carlton - who are identical twins and love to confuse Payton by standing side-by-side and talking to him and his Aunt Gail! He always warms right up to Aunt Gail and usually lets her carry him all over.
After our time there in the morning, we had to load up our car for our final trip back to Sherrills Ford. Payton stayed behind to play with Calyn and Carson a little longer.
We don't usually have definite lunch plans on Christmas Day so we decided to spend it with Chad's great-aunt Evelyn who is 92. Aside for having to wear oxygen and slowly declining health, she does great from day to day. We always enjoy our time with her because she is usually able to entertain us with some old family stories. Her mind is as clear as mine!
We shared Christmas lunch with Aunt Evelyn, Aunt Gail, Chandra, Allen, Calyn and Carson. Payton skipped eating this meal as well...but enjoyed eating several cookies. It is Christmas after all!
This year, Chad has been given his grandfather's pocket watch. We didn't have much information on this watch but Aunt Evelyn enjoyed telling us a little more information. With her help, we learned that the watch originally came from Illinois in 1880 and was given as a gift to Chad's great great-grandfather, William Francis "Bill" Webb from his brother, John Webb.
Bill Webb (center) with Hinston Webb to far right (George's grandfather); Frank Payton Webb (Poppy) is the young boy to the far right with his sister, Evelyn Webb Miller in the front, far left. Laura and Anna Webb, sisters of Bill Webb are to back, far left.
As a side note, we also learned that John Webb died in the front room of her house...always comforting information!
We were so happy to get a little more information on the watch which we now know is nearly 130 years old. What an heirloom! It has know passed through 6 generations - down to Payton.
By the time we had finished our lunch, the rest of Chad's family was starting to arrive to Aunt Evelyn's. We got to see them all for a few more minutes and say goodbye to Meme and Pawpaw one more time before we headed to Sherrills Ford for the rest of Christmas Day. We had a great time in East Bend in the few days before Christmas leading up to Christmas Day and throughout the morning on Christmas.
