Chad and I were actually very lucky to have nearly a week off of work around Christmas. We both worked on Monday the 21st. After work, we headed north as quickly as possible. The suitcases and gifts had been packed. Bailey had been groomed. Payton was picked up from school. Chad picked me up from work. We had dinner at Chic-fil-a (my new favorite!) and finally arrived in snow-covered East Bend around 10:30 on Monday night. Meme, Pawpaw, Chandra, Allen, Calyn an Carson were eagerly awaiting our arrival! Our Christmas had started!
It was so cold in East Bend and there was still about 8 inches of snow of the ground from the snow that had come the Friday prior to our arrival. Calyn and Carson were very excited to give Payton his 1st gift - 2 UNC helmets and football jerseys and a basketball goal and ball.
These are gently used gifts from Calyn and Carson but Payton LOVES his helmets and basketball goal! He plays with both of them nearly every day!
After the gifts, they were ready to show Payton the giant snowman they had made outside and hoped to let him play in the snow a little.
I have already mentioned that Payton was scared of Santa...apparently Frosty has the same effect! Payton liked to look a the snowman from afar but was scared up close. As for the snow, he didn't want to touch it at all! He did enjoy watching Chad, Allen, Chandra, Calyn and Carson sled down the hill behind Meme's house. He still mentions that they went sledding when we read one of his winter books.
Payton was so excited about seeing his family that he did not go to sleep until nearly 1 o'clock in the morning!! That left us with a rough Tuesday with a fussy, cranky, grumpy boy!
We were happy to be in East Bend to see family and get our holiday started! We were able to remain in East Bend until Christmas morning (minus a quick trip to Sherrils Ford for Christmas Eve).
