Along with the growing excitement of welcoming a 2nd baby boy into our family, we also had to think about how Payton would react to the changes happening in his life. For months we talked about his baby brother and he seemed to understand as much as any 2 year old could understand. He seemed to be excited about becoming a big brother and often asked to go get him earlier than his due date!
Payton arrived to the hospital around 11:30 on Wednesday morning and it was finally time to let him meet his baby brother. Chad and I were both so excited! I had asked Chad to make sure we had a few special minutes alone with our new family of 4 before the remainder of our family came back to see the meeting of the two brothers. It was a very special time!
Chad went out to get Payton, the "Big Bro" from the waiting room.
Payton brought Owen a small "It's a Boy!" balloon.
He immediately walked up to the bed to check out the tiny little bundle in my arms. He gave him his balloon and though he was a little quiet he seemed to understand that he was meeting his baby brother, Owen. He had already learned to say Owen.
Mommy and her boys!
Payton and Owen were given several gifts at the hospital. This was Payton's present to Owen. He had known for weeks that he was giving this to Owen. He was happy to open it for him!
He was happy to get a present from Owen too. A nice book bag filled with a few other goodies.
Payton showed Owen his new Woody toy.
Daddy and his boys. Mommy's favorite picture!
Later in the day, Payton was really starting to warm up to the idea of his baby brother. A great big SMILE...
and a great big KISS!
Unfortunately, I was too sick to have the birthday party on Wednesday. We had to post-pone until Thursday. Payton did not forget! We all sang happy birthday to Owen and enjoyed our cupcakes.
Payton requested that Grandma give Owen the cupcake with yellow icing. He loved it!
By Friday, Payton continued to do better around Owen (he was also learning to be quite stubborn on trips to the hospital and with all his family visiting). We were finally able to get our family picture on Friday afternoon.
Good lookin' family!
A great big group hug with our new family of 4!
