Payton has officially had his first "lesson." As a child, I took SO many lessons - art lessons, dance lessons, swimming lessons, more dance lessons, did I mention dance lessons, gymnastics, I recall a few piano lessons but that may have been with a friend, choir practice, tennis lessons (which I hated!), softball practice, (should have had some softball LESSONS and maybe the games would have been a little better) basketball practice, basketball camps, cheerleading practice, cheerleading camp, more dance lessons, and a few more gymnastics lessons.
When you have children (or at least in our personal world) you make plans and dreams for them based on your past. I am already stressed out about the number of lessons and practices that Chad and I will be running to and from in the near future. In our world, this also means that I have been wondering what lessons Payton would have first for quite some time! Would his first organized sport be T-ball? Or soccer? Or basketball? Or would he join the neighborhood swim team? Or would he want to learn to play the guitar or the piano or learn to clog (like his daddy..hahaha!) What would he choose?
Today was the day! June 12th, 2010....what a big day!
Of course, at a young 27 months old, he didn't make his own appointment, he didn't "choose" all alone, and he wasn't able to say "No Mom! You're wrong! I do not want to do this!" Either way, today was his first lesson! Swim lessons! I was so excited! Chad was excited (not as much as me)! Payton was just happy to go to the pool....a "new" pool....and I think he was happy about it as well!
He had a great time with Ms. Libby. He followed every single instruction she gave him (surprisingly to Mom!). He kicked, he kicked fast, he kicked slow, he blew bubbles, he showed her he had no fear of the water, he "walked" up and down the wall, he climbed out on the edge, he laid flat out on his back, and he chased the ducks in the water in swimming motion! He did great! His first "lesson" was a huge success and we'll be back for a few more in the near future.
I also picked up a Mt Pleasant Rec Dept schedule book and learned that Payton will not be old enough to play any organized sport until he is 5! Five! That's 3 years! The same Mom who is wondering how we will do it all once he starts playing sports is also a little disappointed! What in the world will we do for the next 3 years!?!? We can only play so much t-ball in the driveway! I'm sure he'll be recruited early when the locals realize his talent........kidding.....really, only kidding!!
