What I love about Sundays

Today was a great day....another wonderful Sunday.

We headed to Sunday school and church on a dreary morning.  It had rained about 18 hours straight.  Sunday school was intense today - due to several people sharing very personal struggles - but, when we walked outside before our 11:15 church service, we were all happy to see that the rain clouds had moved away and the sky was the most beautiful shade of Carolina blue.  Payton said his prayers had been answered - he apparently prayed for the rain to go away so he could go out and play!

Our church service was great - Chad was back with us for the service and Payton was basically an angel. He was quiet, wrote his name perfectly on the attendance register, participated in songs, enjoyed his Cocoa Puffs, and near the end of the sermon leaned over and whispered to Chad that he "didn't even dance in that aisle today!"  Ah!  He did listen (or, as I predicted, he is much more well behaved when Daddy is close by!).

Chad had a meeting after church and the boys and I headed home to have lunch - sandwiches all around!  Payton proceeded to tell Owen a few things about our upcoming week and told him he would need to be a good boy this week. Payton looked at Owen and asked, "Do you understand?"  Owen, in his baby lingo, responded, "Un-ner-sand."  Hilarious!  I hope that they both understand how to be good boys.  They were both remarkably great all day long.

While the kids were napping, I got busy with a few cleaning projects and my "40 bags in 40 days" smiled as I carried bag after bag after bag out to the trash.  I tried to put one bag of flour in the pantry and two other items fell out on my feet - 5 bags later, I was finished cleaning out the pantry.  Each time I do this I feel sick over the amount of things we let go to waste - most of all cereal and Cheez-its.  Why do I buy things we never eat??? Lesson learned (again!).

I moved on to the small desk in our kitchen area.  The desk becomes a catch-all spot for everything - from art work to bills to magazines I just have to keep.  Three bags of trash later and its looking a little better.

I was in the mood to get rid of stuff today (a few things that I held on to in my last cleaning sweep weren't so lucky today....trash, trash, trash!).   If I had a few more hours in the day I may have been able to do a lot more damage!  I'm proud to report that my "40 bags in 40 days" has helped the junk drawer, the other junk drawer, 3 drawers in our sofa table, our guest room/holiday closet, the cabinet above my small desk, and my small desk.  I have a few closet shelves that are probably starting to get nervous!  How many sets of sheets and towels do you need in one house anyway?!?!?

In the Lenten season, Sunday's don't even count in the 40 day count...I am clearly an over achiever today.

Updates - fried foods....none!  Faced with a nice big bloomin' onion tonight at a friends birthday celebration....no thanks!  One bag per day...done!  Blogging....clearly, and I even blogged twice yesterday.  Bible study...tonight, I'll be reading Proverbs 10.

Hoping some of these changes are starting to become habit and they will stick around in the future.

Have a great week!
