Since we beat Duke so badly....by 18 at Cameron Indoor...I thought I would share a few of my favorite Payton and Owen moments from the night.
Payton of course started the game off saluting our great country - standing up, hand over his heart for the National Anthem.
He spotted Harrison Barnes and of course said "There I am! I just saw me!" Seriously, he is Harrison Barnes...this is different than an imaginary friend; he is an imaginary person!
During the game:
Payton:
"That was a beauty!" - after Harrison Barnes hit a 3 three point shot
"McAdoo mac'd it!" - after James Michael McAdoo rebounded a missed shot and quickly dunked...a pretty nasty dunk in basketball terms
Owen:
"Come on!" - repeatedly, mimicking his Daddy early in the game
"Yeah buddy!" - he repeated "Yeah Buddy" when Payton would cheer
"Boom!" - as we all gave knuckles to him as he walked back and forth to each of us
"Barnes!" - when we asked who he was pulling for
Chad can get slightly aggressive during the games (I'm being polite). This comes in the form of loud yells, harsh words, beating his leg, slapping his leg, or getting up and talking a lap around the room....often accompanied with a "Come on!", "Did you see that?" or "Are you kidding me? You MUST be kidding me!" Depending on the score, his comment may be more like "This one is over" or "Bad shot coming!"
Owen went to bed at halftime tonight so it was just Payton hanging out with the grown ups to watch the game. He snuggled up with Chad on the couch - this can be bad due to the above mentioned comments and actions. After a bad play or bad call early in the second half (I think when Harrison Barnes fouled Curry on a missed 3 point shot), Chad grumbled something, stood up, continued complaining and made one lap through the kitchen and back into the living room (he is in clear view of the TV during all of this). His little shadow, Payton, copied him. I quickly pointed out that he needed to remember what he was doing. A few plays later, there was a bad call. Without any prompting, Payton got up, uttered a few words, shook his head in disgust and made a lap around the kitchen and back into the living room....just like his daddy! Clearly, I am outnumbered and I'm in so much trouble with all these boys in our sports loving home.
We are all SO happy with the HEELS big win....Eric's birthday is sure to be great! We celebrated with the cake and icing I was trying out. The icing was Carolina blue. Originally, I was planning to serve a piece at half time; however, we were up by 20 and seeing as I am SUPER superstitious, I couldn't risk ruining the mojo...we ended a slice at the end of the game. At Payton's request, we sang Happy Birthday to Eric Hoots before digging in. The cake and icing were both a success....I'm feeling a little better about my cake plans for the birthday party. The chicken pie was great too...a new household favorite!

Oh man, the imaginary person comment struck me funny. I'm really excited for your family next year when Peyton, excuse me, Harrison Barnes, starts bringing in the millions.
